Dylan and Zeppelin highlight the news this week...
12 Dec 2004

There will be much rejoicing from Bob Dylan fans this week and there's a promising new Led Zeppelin Boot Label on the block. Those items and much more this week in the News here at HotWacks On-line.

I think we've been talking about Scorpio's ambitious BOB DYLAN DVD Box Set for about 5 months! Well, we have received confirmation that the printing of the artwork was completed and sets have been shipped out to various vendors for collectors to snap up. It is said there will only be 250 copies arriving stateside. We will have a set for review sometime this week also, and we can't wait. All known professionally shot footage in the finest quality will be housed in a deluxe package. The Genuine Telecasts 6 DVD Box Set...artwork for the front of box set, booklet and front art for each of the six DVD's appears below.

In other BOB DYLAN bootleg news, Mainstream has released "Get Your Kicks On Route 66", a double-DVDR that features the audience shot concert from Sangamon University inSpringfield, Illinois on April 5th, 1994. Another unidentified Japanese label has released the Dylan boot "Historical Stockholm '66", a single disc that features his April 29th, 1966 concert from the Konserthuset, Stockholm, Sweden, plus some bonus material.

If you are a LED ZEPPELIN collector, you certainly heard about Beezlebub Records this week. They made announcements regarding previously unreleased and/or upgraded shows they will be releasing in coming weeks. One of four inaugural titles is called "Pure Demand", a 4 Disc set that houses an upgraded version of the June 8th, 1977 concert from Madison Square Garden on 3 discs. Also included is a 60 minute Radio Interview of Jimmy Page with Scott Muni from June 9th, 1977. It is said that Jimmy had passed out during the course of the conversation and did much of the interview laying on the studio floor! Then, there is a DVD of all the known MSG '77 amateur video footage that exists. There has only been one commercial bootleg release of this show, TDOLZ's "Second Night At The Garden", and the sound on that one is less than stunning! So, if "Pure Demand" is indeed an upgrade, it will be a much welcomed title. It should be noted that Beezlebub Records is a CDR/DVDR label. Other releases that are currently available are LED ZEPPELIN "In The Heat Of The Night", the 2 Fillmore East shows on January 31st and February 1st 1969...JIMMY PAGE & ROBERT PLANT "Bizarre Party" 2DVD-R of the Bizarre Festival Pro-shot show from Cologne on August 23rd, 1998 plus a bonus DVD-R of the audience shot show from Milan on November 19, 1998...and JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES "Die Another Day", from Giants Stadium New York on October 19th, 1999. All supposedly from unreleased master sources. We have requested a copy of "Pure Demand" to review here and we'll share our thoughts on this production. It amazes me that not one label has put together a Zeppelin New York '77 themed box set.

As we have seen quite often with LED ZEPPELIN shows, there is often a duplication of efforts from the Japanese Labels. The Badgeholders Label
released "Let's Do It Again" (Seattle 6/19/72) and "Mystery Train (San Diego 6/19/77) this week...now Empress Valley has announced that they are releasing "San DiegoMystery Train" and Cashmere is releasing "Lightbringer", their version of the Seattle '72 show. Other releases slated to come from Empress Valley include: "Praying Silently For Jimi" (MSG Afternoon show, 9/19/70), "Frankfurt Special" (Frankfurt, Germany 6/30/80) and of course, "St. Louis Blues", the brand new soundboard from St. Louis on February 16th, 1975.

Other titles we learned about this week...from Swingin' Pig (yes, you read correctly), ERIC CLAPTON "Wonderful Tonight", a 6CD set from all soundboard sources - no details on what dates and venues are featured...and from Slunky comes the CLAPTON/CARLOS SANTANA title "F.I.L.Y.-Vancouver 1975",an audience recording from the PNE in Vancouver on August 3rd, 1975...CLAPTON DVD news, Johanna has just released the single disc "San Jose Shuffle" from San Jose, California on July 31st, 2004...along with BRIAN WILSON "Smile Concert In Cornwell 2004" DVD...coming soon from Wardour is JONI MITCHELL & JAMES TAYLOR "BBC In Concert", a soundboard recording from Royal Albert Hall on October 28th, 1970...we also mentioned the new U2 title from S.D.R. Records called "Boys Will Be Boys" on CDR. This one compiles all known demos and early sessions from London and Glasgow between the years 1978 and 1980...An unidentified Japanese Label has relased the U2 DVD "Stop The Traffic Again", their November 22nd MTV taping from Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, New York City...new from Bondage Music DVD is JUDAS PRIEST "Visual Metalogy" , a rare compilation of videos from the band. In other DVD news, Jointrip's new ROLLING STONES release is "Terrifying" 19th Anniversary Special Edition, the full Pay-Per-View event from Atlantic City on December 19, 1989 with all the Pre-show coverage, etc. on a double-DVDR set...The Bake-Rod CD Label has just issued a new RAMONES title called "1-2-3-4 Die", which is a soundboard recorded in New York on New Years Eve 1979.

Finally, we shared the fact that there are a couple of new CDR Releases from Doberman Records to point out...the first is STEVE EARLE "Borderline Marxist" is supposedly and excellent audience from Leeds, UK on October 17, 2004...and then there is SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY & THE ASBURY JUKES "This Or That?"
a 2CDR set recorded during the opening night of their UK Tour in Aylesbury on October 18th, 2004. The recording is being described as "near soundboard quality". The Pieces Of Eight Label has also released a 2CDR SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY set called "Back On The Ferry", recorded on October 23rd, 2004 at the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow. All are said to be available in the next week, or so.

That's it for the news this week. Thanks for stopping in to catch up. In the meantime keep an eye on the News Ticker and visit HotWacks On-line often!
