Some very encouraging sourcing being seen, it's the Bootleg News...
13 Feb 2006

It wasn't too long ago that the labels were pretty tight-lipped and keeping the lids on.   That doesn't seem to be the case any longer as new titles continue to arrive at the marketplace and many are new shows and sources - which is great news!...So let's get on with it.

Every week we seem to be able to highlight new soundboard recordings, and this week a pair of them obviously stemming from the same source. The event is the 2nd Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert, an annual fundraiser coordinated and executed by Neil Young and his wife for the support of a wonderful facility which assists physically challenged children overcome their impairments with the use of technology. We've got two great sets...BOB DYLAN "San Francisco Bay Bridge" 1CD features BOB's set with G.E. SMITH on Lead Guitar and then a mini-set with TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS...the other release of course is NEIL YOUNG "This Old Bridge" 1CD, which provides a variety of performances from solo acoustic set to a CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG mini-set, a couple of tunes with pal NILS LOFGREN and then NEIL provides harmonica accompaniment to a JERRY GARCIA, BOB WEIR and ROB WASSERMAN rendition of "Wang Dang Doodle". This December 4th, 1988 show took place at the Oakland Coliseum and both discs look great though we do not have the label confirmed just yet. It's not a soundboard but the Trial label is releasing their version of THE ROLLING STONES "St. Paul 2005", a double-CDR of the excellent September 6th, 2005 stereo audience recording at The Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota (Pignose Records originally issued this show as "Some Mournful Melody" 2CDR couple of months ago).  Also from Trial this week...AL STEWART "Tokyo 1979" 2CDR from Nakano Sunplaza on July 26th, 1979 in excellent audience quality...AND, yes...OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN "Bring Your Love Around" 2CDR, capturing the luscious Aussie at The Budokan on December 3rd, 1976 in an excellent audience tape on Disc One and an FM Broadcast from December 4th on Disc 2...Trial DVD Masters is issuing THE BEE GEES "Melbourne 1971" 1DVD-R Proshot video from the Festival Hall in Melbourne, Austrialia on July 15th of 1971. Power Gate is about to release a very significant AEROSMITH double-disc on CDR...significant for those looking for good recordings from the Rocks Tour of 1976-77...it's called "Whole Place Rockin'" and disc one features an upgraded stereo audience source from January 9th, 1977 at The Budokan, disc two captures their second go-round at the same venue a few weeks later on January 31st, great news and one that deserves investigating!...Also announced this week from Power Gate is ALICE COOPER "The Nightmare Returns", a November 26, 1986 stereo soundboard from The Apollo Theater in Manchester, UK.

Turning our attention back to ROLLING STONES boot releases...the Yugoslav niche label, Risk Disc, has produced the first commercial boot (albeit CDR) of the Bloomington, Indiana show on July 26th, 1975 and titled it..."You Gotta Bloom". Release information doesn't specify but the label typically keeps their titles to limited burning of an odd number of 117 copies, or something along that line. As with previous Risk Disc titles, the packaging is really constructed nicely with high quality materials and photography - which makes their titles more "collectible" than a "must have" because Risk Disc make a concious effort to release the obscure recordings that are usually of marginal quality. I like 'em, take a look below!  We mentioned over the weekend that Exile were getting the STONES 3CD set, "Live At Budokan - Special Edition"...which will feature the superb audience recording from the legendary Japanese venue during a stop on The Licks Tour on March 10, 2003.  The show itself will be spread over discs 1 & 2, a rehearsal tape to be featured on disc 3 and we look forward to that. In other things
STONES...Treasure Stone DVD-R, formerly known as Jointrip, is set to shuttle out a pair of great Bigger Bang shows from Madison Square Garden last month!...look for both the January 18th &
20th videos to arrive on DVD in the next couple of weeks as "MSG 2006 1st Night" and "MSG 2006 2nd Night".

Ok, jumping back to NEIL YOUNG again...NEIL's Freedom Tour is certainly deserving of further documentation and Digital Gang Productions has just released what they are calling a "gem"...titled "Amsterdam", it features the complete performance at Stopera in Amsterdam on December 6, 1989!...the label will also dig back in the archives for the soon to be released "Late Night In Boston", a NEIL & CRAZY HORSE show from Boston Music Hall on November 22nd, 1976...Sirene is doubling up on their new YES package, "The One For All" 2CD + bonus DVD-R...the audio is another stellar audience recording from Gothenburg, Sweden on November 12, 1977 - the DVD-R, called "Going For The One Sessions", features 2 hours of proshot studio video...this bonus package will be limited to the initial pressings only.  Eighties Heavy Metal fans will want to keep an eye out for a new MOTLEY CRUE DVD...recently released on a generic import silver disc, it features the CRUE's 1983 US Festival appearance and comes housed in beautiful digipack foldout case...some caution advised until we can actually get any of our paws on this one as a previous "DVD" release by this same label turned out to be a VCD!...though the contents and production was top notch.  You may have noticed Mr. Sparaco's recent ROBERT PLANT "Sound + Vision" review here at HotWacks On-line, well it seems just the DVD has been released over in Europe on silver disc and is available through import channels.

Time to get caught up on ELVIS PRESLEY boots!...Memory Records will issue 2 new titles the coming weeks, "Elvis-Better Than Ever:Touring Florida Vol. 1" captures the September 12, 1970 performance at the Convention Center in Miami and "Elvis-The Lightning Storm In Florida: Touring Florida Vol. 2" documents the Tampa show at Curtis Nixon Hall on April 26, 1975.  In related EL news, hot off the press it seems that the Madison Label will follow up their "Legendary Performer Vol. 8" with a highly regarded show...the Fort Worth concert from June 3rd, 1976! The label had included selections from this concert in a poor audience recording a few years back but this 2006 version boasts a first generation stereo soundboard and will no doubt cause a degree of noise in the colllecting community. The title is called, "The Elvis Presley Show - Holding Down The Fort" 30TH Anniversary Edition...and it will contain the complete sets from the 3 warmup acts along with ELVIS' complete show, plus a 16-page color booklet with extensive notes. And we posted a blurb earlier today on that new SANTANA DVD from Zipper Deke, "Another Live Lotus", which compiles footage from 2 nights in Tokyo on July 6th & 7th, 1973 in proshot quality...out in circulation now on the Northern Disc DVD-R label is CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG "The Winterland Reunion", over an hours' worth of proshot footage from San Francisco's Winterland Arena on October 4th, 1973 with bonus tracks from Woodstock '69 and a STEPHEN STILLS appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno from last year. And finally, we told you about the new WHO 2CD set coming from Rock Masters called "Unbelievable Fantastic - Tommy Live 1969", no doubt a very solid version of the Amsterdam soundboard tape from The Concertbow on September 29, 1969.

That's it for this week...keep your comments, suggestions and any information on titles we may have missed coming in!  We appreciate your participation and support very much.  Have yourself a great week and keep an eye on the Ticker for more bootleg news as it comes in.  Thanks!
