The Independence Day Bootleg News at HotWacks Online...
03 Jul 2006

Welcome...and we hope that all our friends stateside are enjoying their long 4th of July holiday weekend!...

The bootleg news updates first...from the Naked Sun Co. Label comes a pairing of two soundboard performance recordings of THE POLICE called "Northern Outlaws" 2CD, the tapes document the bands' first couple of tours to North America in 1979 and 1980 - now the initial info doesn't specify dates but we can only assume that these are the Radio Broadcasts from New York  1979 and I believe the 1980 broadcast was from Detroit or Cleveland(?)...this is just speculation on my part of course and I'll certainly pass along that info when it surfaces. Tambourine Man Records will issue the first BOB DYLAN recording from the current tour..."God Knows Everything" 2CD documents his show from Maricopa County Events Center in Sun City West, Arizona on April 6th 2006 with bonus tracks....speaking of old BOB, the latest set from Hollow Horn's 2006 Performing Artist Collection has just hit the streets and is called "For Someone By Someone" 2CD and compiles the 1962 recordings from Gerde's Folk City in New York in April '62, The Finjan Club in Montreal on July 2nd, 1962 and rounds out with the complete Gaslight Cafe recording from New York again, this time in October of '62...surely these recordings have been given supreme attention and can only be upgrades for us.  (The Gaslight Tapes were "officially" released last Summer in the U.S. via Starbucks Coffee outlets.)  Coming from Mindwarp next will be EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER "Koshien Battlefield" 2CD, taped from the soundboard at Korakuen Stadium,Tokyo on July 22nd, 1972 this set also features some audience-sourced bonus tracks.

Some Japanese releases to point out this week...Power Gate will release the METALLICA 4CD set "Damaged Justice Revisited", which pairs up a couple of stellar audience tapes from Kawasaki, Japan on May 11, 1989 and their Tokyo show at the Yoyogi Olympic Pool on May 13, 1989 - the initial sets will also feature a bonus DVD-R called "Damage Inc 1987", an 80 minute proshot video from Gothenberg, Sweden on February 13, 1987...From Rising Arrow comes the RAINBOW double-disc, "Triumphant Return", an excellent sounding set recorded from the audience in Nagoya on January 11, 1978...New from Sirene this month will be KING CRIMSON "Fascist" 2CD + bonus CDR "Third Reich", the core discs feature a nice audie sourcetape recorded in Rome on November 13, 1973 while the bonus disc is recorded live in Saarbruegen, Germany on November 8th, 1973..Sirene's CDR releases this week include ELP "Exposive Material" 2CDR from Tokyo on September 16, 1992...THE MOODY BLUES "The Voyage To Osaka" 2CDR, another great audience tape from January 23, 1974...and ANDERSON, BRUFORD, WAKEMAN & HOWE "Livin' On The Edge" 2CDR is a soundboard taped in Tokyo on March 4th, 1990.  Dog N Cat Records will pause while the Bigger Bang Tour regroups and look to more vintage material...their next ROLLING STONES effort will be the 2CD set, "The Great Lost Live Album" which features the very good audience tape from the evening show at Madison Square Garden on July 25, 1972.

Here is some good news for OASIS collectors...there were a handful of titles released this month that look quite desirable...from the Our Kid Nogger Label comes "D'You Feel Daydream - Revisited", an excellent show from The Budokan in Tokyo on February 19th, 1998 - the set comes a standard 2CD edition, but the intial sets feature a bonus disc with a recording from Guildhall in Southampton, UK on November 30, 1994...the label also issued "Three Days After", an October 5th, 1995 recording from the International Center in Bournemouth -again, the label issued the same bonus disc as Daydream...go figure.  Flashbulb Records presented three OASIS projects this month..."The Second Summer Of Love" is a 6CD Box Set that features both soundboard and audience sources of the bands' Knebworth Festival appearances on August 10th and 11th, 1996..."Live At Leeds" 1CD is a Limited Edition title of only 350 copies...featuring an audience tape from Leeds Festival in England on August 28, 2000..."Little James with Stay Young and 35 other songs" is a single disc of rare acoustic performances and I'm pretty sure this is a re-issue.  Rounding out the new release mentions this week...Also from Naked Sun Co. comes the BABYSHAMLES title, "Royalty Songs", featuring some studio demos dating back to May of 2005 from sessions produced by ex-CLASH Guitarist, MICK JONES...Adventure Disc have done many of us favor and compiled 2 hours worth of proshot video pieces of THE DAMNED on a DVD titled "Life A Brand New Roses:  Video Anthology 1976-2000"...and I neglected to mention this one last week - CHUCK BERRY "Wee Years '72" (Collection #1) has been produced and issued on the Johanna Japanese DVD-R label...we just don't see many CHUCK BERRY bootleg titles so I just wanted to point that out.

I'll leave you with some enticing photos of the new BOB DYLAN & THE BAND DVD "69-70" from 4Reel Productions/Silent Sea just released this week...some classy touches given to what is sure to be an amazing title.  Have a great week all!
