A Big Thank You...and the Bootleg News Roundup...
31 Jul 2006

Welcome to the Bootleg News here at HotWacks On-line.  I want to thank the membership, including the group of new people who have joined us, for supporting the Hot Wacks Press Book Sale this past week.  The response was excellent and it has us entertaining other collaborative efforts and offers down the road.  Anytime you can inject something different where information can be had is a good thing in my opinion.  In our collecting hobby information is key.  I know there is a generation of new collectors out there and those who are members have now been introduced to vital Hot Wacks books.

Tonight, a ragtag batch of announcements that have come through the ranks over the past 5-6 days.

Bob Dylan Supper Club Thinman RecordsRolling Stones Tokyo Bang SODD Label

Thinman Records continues it's streak by announcing the BOB DYLAN 4CD set, "The Supper Club", this week...this one comes with the promise of upgraded DAT audience tapes that haven't been available on CD previously.  Being that the 2 nights were marathons with many of the standards plus a slew of rarely heard performances - this is great news!...there is even a soundboard version of "Ring Them Bells" tacked on.  The shows were taped on September 16th & 17th 1993 at The Supper Club in New York City and Bob was in great form.  Coming from Singer's Original (SODD) is THE ROLLING STONES "Tokyo Bang" 4CD set which has us a little puzzled as to what the actual source recordings to be utilized are!...the pre-release info alludes to "multi-mixed soundboard sources" while also noting that these are soundboard/audience mixes...we'll find out soon I guess.

Whitesnake Summer Of '79 Power Gate LabelPink Floyd Obscure Night Sirene LabelPink Floyd Zurich 1972 Sirene Label

Announcements out of Japan at the start of the week here include the latest from Power Gate on Silver CD, WHITESNAKE "Summer Of '79" 1CD brings a stereo soundboard of their Reading Festival performance on August 26, 1979 to commercial bootleg CD - it comes with a bonus DVD-R of their May 10, 1980 proshot show in Washington D.C....Sirene is determined to get all of the essential PINK FLOYD tapes onto CD and in their catalog... their latest announcements are:..."Obscure Night" 2CD which is a fantastic audience recording commonly recognized in Floyd collector circles as "Yeeshkul!" (which comes from an exclamation made from these notorious tapers from the Toronto area and is their "trademark" if you will) - this show taped at Maple Leaf Gardens on March 11, 1973 and is highly recommended...the other new Sirene title is "Zurich 1972" 2CD which is another great recording that includes one of the handful of performances of my favorite PINK FLOYD tune, "Childhood's End" as an encore.   BEATLES' Solo recording enthusiasts, there is info on a batch of titles that came across the desk over the weekend though the info lacked any real details...from Strange Apple Records is "John Lennon And Yoko Ono Meets Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention", a 2CD set limited to 200 copies and it includes a bonus DVD-R in which the content is unknown at time of posting tonight...some more JOHN LENNON from the Barrier Label - "It's Hard To Be Butterflies" 2CD and "We'd Like To Change The Tempo Now" 2CD...from Stoneage Music comes the PAUL McCARTNEY CD "Chateau Vallon"...from Silver Apple 3 more Macca titles..."Hey Birmingham!" 2CD, "Pizza & Fairy Tales" 2CD, and "Turkey In The Straw" 2CD set.

Derek & The Dominos Essential Fillmore Paddington LabelYes Conquer Americas 2000 6CD Set

I'm fairly certain that anything ERIC CLAPTON has out-pressed THE STONES over the past few months!...More Slowhand announcements this week that include what appears to be a re-release from Paddington of their 5CD DEREK & THE DOMINOS set, "The Essential Fillmore Tapes".  I wasn't even going to mention it but the announcement came in from everywhere so, in case you missed out on this one earlier in the year - it appears that it's available again!  Tarantura will issue a CLAPTON soundboard from July 25, 1974 called "The Saint Louis Blues" 2CD in a Limited Edition paper slip-sleeve cover...and from ARMS comes "The Band Du Lac" 2CD which is apparently an unidentified 1988 recording.  An interesting new YES 6CDR set has been issued and there is no obvious label identification attached, just the catalog reference of "FR-203-208"...it's called "Conquer Americas 2000 Master Works Americas Tour", and it's 3 shows: Camden, NJ on July 18, 2000...Amsouth Amphitheater, Antioch, Tennesee...and Atlanta on July 30, 2000.  I'm going to go ahead and mention a few of the different DVD-R releases that have surfaced over the last 10 days or so...since there aren't alot of Silver Disc issues to really get into tonight...from the Solenoid Label there's STEVE MARRIOTT/HUMBLE PIE "Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am" DVD which captures a September 26, 1984 show from Rotterdam with a couple of more vintage PIE bonus clips from Winterland '73 and Alabama '69...also from Solenoid is ELVIS COSTELLO & THE ATTRACTIONS "Tokyo Storm Warning 1978", which is actually a 3CDR + Bonus DVD-R package that compiles three classic-era Tokyo performances on November 27, 28 & 30th, 1978 with the DVD titled "This Year's Model" with various video content...Footstomp DVD has a couple of new titles (probably more like 25!)...the latest announcement is BOB DYLAN 2DVD-R set, "No Secrets To Conceal" which is a compilation set from 1963-1985 and is basically a recycling of all the material we have seen in various iterations over the last couple of years, offering really nothing new....then there's the DEAD KENNEDYS "Chemical Warfare" which pairs a couple of proshot vids from The Earth Tavern in Portland on November 19, 1979 and Wien, Austria 1982.

Humble Pie Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am DVDBob Dylan No Secrets To Conceal DVDElvis Costello Tokyo Storm Warning 1978 DVDDead Kennedys Chemical Warfare DVD

I hope you are all enjoying your Summer and finding the time to just relax a little bit.  Look for the release schedule to start opening up again towards the end of August and we'll be off and running again!  Thanks again for your continued support and don't hesitate in shooting questions or suggestions through the channels to me here at HotWacks On-line... you can do so at this email address:  sb@hotwacks.com

Have a great week!
