Ladies & Gentlemen..The Rolling Stones...and another Book Sale too!
04 Sep 2006

Before I jump right in...our collaborative Book Sale Offer with Hot Wacks Press was so well received back in July that we all agreed we should continue getting these resources into the hands of the membership at a reduced price - So...starting this Saturday, September 9th and running through to Friday, September 15th...you will be able to pick up Hot Wacks Supplements #1 and #2 for just $6.95 or roughly half the list price.  There were 7 Supplements in all, each running from about 200 to 240 pages...after The Last Wacks was issued in 1993, the bootleg CD industry skyrocketed, thus the documentation continued through 2001.  So the September offer attempts to connect you with fresh minty copies of those first 2 supplements from '93 & '94 to go with your crisp copies of The Last Wacks!  We will execute the sale the same way we did it in July...after you log in, you'll be taken to a Sale landing page that will offer you the option to link to the sale particulars at Hot Wacks Press, or continue on into the HotWacks On-line site.  It all starts Saturday!

And speaking of THE ROLLING STONES...plenty of other releases came to light the last few days.  So far, IMP, Silent Sea Productions (I erroneously cited The Godfather Records last week), Sister Morphine and Pignose Records are showing plans to release the newly surfaced Steel Wheels Session tapes...Pignose is offering a 2CDR set, while Sister Morphine a 1CDR and Silent Sea a single disc as well ...not sure what Pignose is filling the outtakes set with but here are the tracks we know about so far on the tapes:

  • Sad Sad Sad
  •  Mixed Emotions
  • Terrifying
  • Your Precious Love
  • Hold On To Your Hat
  • Hearts For Sale
  • Blinded By Love
  • Ready Yourself
  • Rock And A Hard Place
  • Can't Be Seen
  • Almost Hear You Sigh
  • Continental Drift
  • Call Girl Blues
  • Fancy Man Blues
  • Slipping Away

I am sure there are a few different takes of several of these pieces and some jams of course too, more details as we get them.  IMP has several new titles for September that include "Steel Wheels Primitive Mixes 1989" 1CD Ltd Edition, the first 150 copies have a special gatefold sleeve presentation... "Listen Naples And Die" 2CD is the first time the complete July 17, 1982 Napoli, Italy show has been presented in a soundboard/audience mix - again, the first 150 copies have the special gatefold sleeve...the "Glasgow Broadcast 2006" 2CD Ltd. Edition features the FM Broadcast from Hampden Park on August 25th and, you guessed it - the first 150 copies come in a special gatefold sleeve.  The Halcyon Label announced "Wembley High Rollers" 2CD over the weekend and this one captures their first Wembley Empire Pool show on September 8, 1973 with a newly surfaced upgraded source that is more complete than previously available..as we talked about last week, the Rattlesnake Label is back in production and their DVD Label, Kingsnake, has the new STONES DVD "Waiting For The Bigger Bang" which contains the entire Digital Broadcast from Saitama on April 2nd, in glorious proshot, region free and widescreen quality!...I should also mention that Trial CDR will release both Twickenham shows from August 20th & 22nd on a 4CDR title called "Twickenham 2006" from wonderful audience tapes...

Pink Floyd Copenhagen 1972 CD Sirene LabelRolling Stones Champions Of The World CD Godfather RecordsLed Zeppelin Black Beauty CD Wendy Records

From Japan this week comes news of  Wendy Records next LED ZEPPELIN release...it's called "Black Beauty" and will be the excellent performance from the Fillmore West on April 24, 1969 as documented in another wild audience source...also, some new PINK FLOYD titles from Sirene..."M-502 Collector's Edition" 4CD, plus bonus DVD-R called "Aspekt", the set features a couple of different audience source tapes from February 25th, 1971 performance at the Musikhalle in Hamburg, Germany - with the bonus DVD featuring an 11 minute proshot segment on concerts performed at both Offenbach and Hamburg, broadcast on German TV Station ZDF on March 2, 1971...while the footage is crystal clear, in color and interesting to see after all these years, there isn't a lot going on as it is mostly shot during rehearsals - but will have you marvelling at the intimate venues and how maginficent it would have been to be there!....maybe a couple of you were!...we'd all love to hear about that!..the other silver disc Sirene title is "Copenhagen 1972" 2CD that also features an pretty nice audience tape at KB Hallen on December 10th...also from Sirene this week is the 4CDR set, "Earl's Court 1994", compiling 2 stellar audience tapes from October 14th & 15th, 1994 at Earl's Court's Exhibition Hall...other offerings include the Sirene title ASIA "Wildest Moment" 2CDR, an audience tape from their August 29th, 2006 show at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, New York...from Trial this week we have, in addition to the STONES title above...ROBERT PLANT "Moonlight In Texas" 2CDR which compiles 2 stereo soundboards from Austin on September 21st, 1983 and Summit Arena in Houston on June 22nd, 1985...JETHRO TULL "Summer Of '74" 2CDR brings us a superb audience source tape from Tokyo on August 17, 1974...finally, DAVID BOWIE "Something In The Night" 2CDR is an audience tape from the Apollo Theater in Glasgow on June 20th, 1978.

That's it for this week!  Watch for the particulars on the HW Book Sale at the end of the week and keep an eye on the News Ticker, things are bound to really heat up this month.  Hope all of our friends around the U.S. enjoyed their long Labor Day Weekend...and I hope everyone enjoyed their Summer of 2006...wow, it's back to school for the kiddies!  I'll meet you back here next week.
