New Old Prince, Elvis, Dash of Dylan and a Heap of Jeff Beck...
22 Jan 2007

Usually here in the States at this time, Super Bowl Sunday would have been completed and we'd move on to the next focus whatever that might be.  This year? No, they've extended it out to February 5th and soon we'll be having Super Bowl parties in March.  But now we know who's playing in the most over-hyped nonsense to ever be conceived and I'm not a fan of either team but frankly, happy for the 2 coaches involved as they deserve the opportunity for sure.  So, if you might be either an Indianapolis Colts or Chicago Bears fan - congrats and have fun with it.  Me?...I'll recoil back into the Bootleg News!...

Bob Dylan What Are You Trying To Say? Hollow HornEric Clapton Divine Providence Tinkerbell Label

Hollow Horn will continue on with its' BOB DYLAN Performing Artist Series, Reference Master Recordings - without missing a beat as we get ready for Volume 6, "What Are You Trying To Say?"...this 2CD set will showcase two 1965 performances with the Manchester Free Trade Hall show from May 7, 1965...and the scarcely mentioned Hollywood Bowl show on September 3, 1965...I downloaded the "upgraded" version of this Hollywood Bowl recording a couple of months ago and it's quite enjoyable.  I can only imagine how it will sound via this collection and cannot wait.  On another DYLAN note, there's a new double-DVDR on the market from Northern Disc called "In The Summertime" and features some rare 1981 Tour footage from Loreley, Germany on July 17th, Mannheim on July 18th and Vienna on July 21st.  Also announced this past week is another ERIC CLAPTON production from the Tinker Bell Label...titled "Divine Providence", the 2CD release features EC's Providence Civic Center concert from Rhode Island on April 26, 1987...As mentioned heading into last weekend, there's an interesting ELVIS PRESLEY 10CD Box Set arriving on the scene very soon called "Live Soundboard Collection" and is said to have each disc packaged in deluxe digipacks with the number of copies to be limited to 500 worldwide...I'll share more details on it's specific contents and shows as they become available.

Some quick-hitting news out of Japan overnight includes a couple of QUEEN titles from Wardour..."Vienna Waltz" 2CD features an excellent audience recording from Stadthalle in Vienna on May 2nd, 1978 while "Denmark News" 2CD contains the April 13th, 1978 concert recording from The Falkoner Theater in Copenhagen...Here's a change-up from the usual fare for you...new from Reel Masters comes a real british release!...ATOMIC ROOSTER "Harrow Festival 1972" 1CD is supposedly a primo sounding tape, recorded live at the Wealdstone Football Club in Harrow, Northwest London on July 15, 1972...the release comes with a bonus CDR of CHRIS FARLOWE taped live at The Marquee Club in London on September 14, 1979.  The always and ever-changing Japanese Label roster grew again this past week with 3 new  JEFF BECK titles from the relatively new Scatterbrain Label..."Cold Front" 2CD captures a July 13, 2005 concert in Sapporo with bonus tracks from the June 26th, 2005 Royal Festival Hall in London..."Jeff's Wolf Trap" 1CD is a stereo soundboard recording from Vienna on September 2nd, 2003..."Live At House Of Blues" 2CD is a West Coast Spring Tour 2006 document taped in Las Vegas on April 2nd... A BRAND NEW BECK release announcement this week is "Jeff's Birthday Party" 4CD set which offers a pair of recordings from Royal Albert Hall in London on June 23rd and 24th, 2004.  Now if someone could finally clarify for me what is the difference between the legendary RAH and Royal Festival Hall...I would be forever grateful.  Are they one and the same?

PRINCE collectors/fans, just coming down the pike now from the NPG Label is a sweet DVD set, "Sign O The Times"...An NTSC, Region Free offering said to be of absolutely perfect audio and video quality, featuring proshot footage of concerts at Ahoy and Rotterdam, Holland on June 27th & 28th, 1987 with bonus footage that contains the 14 minute PRINCE-short film "Hard Life" plus outtakes from the Sign O The Times official movie in remastered quality and it all comes in a standard DVD clamshell with dual-sided color insert art and an 8-page booklet.  Last week I mentioned the new "She Was Hot, Hot Hot" ROLLING STONES title on deck from Sister Morphine...it appears the scope of this release has widened and appears to either be a 4CD set, or two 2CD volumes, containing the November 6, 2006 Oakland show with bonus tracks "Sway" & "She's So Cold" from the August 27th Sheffield, UK concert - and the Atlantic City show at The Boardwalk on November 17th, 2006 with the bonus "Monkey Man" from Halifax on August 27th.  I don't recall mentioning this but released recently from The Godfather Records, likely with their holiday announcments from last month, is JEFF BUCKLEY "Born Again From The Rhythm", a single disc worth of Bearsville Studios tapes from the Fall of 1993 up in Woodstock New York featuring 14 previously unreleased versions of tracks.

That's what I know for this week but look for news regarding some old friends next week.  Keep checking back frequently for new reviews being uploaded daily and join us back here next Monday for all the latest scuttlebutt in boot news, here at HotWacks On-line.  Have a great week!
