The Golden Week Bootleg News at HotWacks On-line...
30 Apr 2007

As Golden Week gets underway in Japan, it seems the underground industry totally acknowledges the 10 day/4 Holiday observance and decides not to come to the office as well.  From emails to general site updates around the globe, the past week seems to have all but ground to a halt on the bootleg release announcements.  However, what has made it's way through the lines are some unique titles and interesting releases to street yet this Spring...

Last week we talked about the BOB DYLAN "Theme Time Radio Hour" releases and with the recent issuing of Box #2 in Europe, it seems the bar has been raised a bit in the quality of the package...the package has arrived with a very nice little booklet with information and pictures.  Hey, every little touch adds charm to the acquisition as far as I'm concerned!  Just announced from Reel Masters is "Rainbow 1975" 2CD from THE BAKER GURVITZ ARMY, the set captures GINGER BAKER and company live at London's Rainbow Theater on February 16, 1975 and comes with a bonus CDR of "Ginger Baker's African Salt with Art Blakey" that contains an August 18, 1972 Munich, Germany show...and, just as I receive my copy of THE FACES "Take A Look At The Five Guys"  (Vintage Premium Master Label), Trial jumps on the Wolfgangs Vault source tape and announces FACES "San Bernadino 1975 Master" utilizing the very good soundboard tape on a single CDR...from the looks of the CDR release lists this week, the online streaming audio captures are still holding their own...some upcoming titles from Devil's Breath sound extremely promising...the label has obtained a completely uncut audio tape of THE ROLLING STONES' September 9, 1973 afternoon show that will most certainly be an upgrade on a couple of levels based on the mp3 sample I was provided, so we can certainly look forward to that, as well as the PINK FLOYD Dual-Layer DVD9 issue of "The Complete Calhoun Tapes" featuring the Atlanta 1987 proshot video that would seem to be a much longer source than what has been circulating amongst fans and boot titles to date...this film is what was the basis for many of the videos for the "Momentary Lapse Of Reason" promos.

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour Box 2 Booklet

There is a new silver disc release from Vintage Premium Masters that features a January 24, 1975 soundboard from an L.A. GENESIS  show at The Shrine Auditorium and is called "The Lamb Rock Opera" 2CD...new from the Still Nothing Label comes MY BLOODY VALENTINE "All Things Must Pass:  Video Anthology 1989-1992" a DVD + bonus DVD-R set of proshot and audience source footage totaling over 300 minutes...Bondage will issue KISS "Young & Wasted" 2CD, an audience tape from their January 11, 1984 concert at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium...Just released this past week from Tarantura are these Limited, Paper Case Edition titles...BAD COMPANY "Boot Co." 2CD from a March 3, 1975 Tokyo performance..from March 3, 1976 is NEIL YOUNG "Wet Show" 2CD of a concert in Nagoya...JEFF BECK & STANLEY CLARKE "Final Freeway Jam" 2CD recorded live in Tokyo on December 2, 1978...and ERIC CLAPTON "Hanaten Sources" is a 4CD set pairing 2 different shows from Osaka on November 5, 1974 and September 26, 1977...new from Mid-Valley is the CLAPTON title "Silver Feather" a cohesive 2CD/3DVD audio and video package of his December 8th, 2006 at Budokan.

In LED ZEPPELIN boot release news...along with Tarantura's "Latter Day Saint" 2CD title, and Wendy's "Windy City Adventure 3CD set...Empress Valley presented 2 new titles to the mix this week that includes "Young Person's Guide To Led Zeppelin Vol. 2 - Front Row" 2CD which utilizes the September 23, 1971 audience recording from Budokan Hall in Tokyo...and, "September VI" 1CD that brings yet another version of the September 6, 1970 audience tape from the International Center in Honolulu, Hawaii - fortunately these two sets are part of EV's budget-price offerings we've been seeing intermittently over the last year and are great shows if there are some collectors that haven't obtained some the older versions.  A couple of ZEP titles soon to come include Scorpio's 4CD "A Soundboard Platter" which will bring together a collection of the 1973 European Tour soundboards that will likely include Hamburg, Liverpool and Dundee...and the SODD Label is planning the release of  "Destroyer" 3CD which would seem to be an anniversary-type release of the classic Cleveland soundboard from April 27, 1977 - NOT "Destroyer 3" which was what we posted on the News Ticker and would imply the Capital Centre performance from Largo, Maryland on May 30, 1977...but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

One last update...4Reel Productions' plans for THE ROLLING STONES DVD release, "Houston '81" could be in jeopardy of seeing an updated bootleg release...I've learned that a side deal may seal the fate of this one seeing the light and that due to the increased internet sharing and sourcing, we may not see another 4Reel title for awhile though plans to complete the SLY STONE compilation will likely hold...

That's it for this week.  I hope you're all enjoying some nice Spring weather wherever you are and remember to keep your browsers pointed to www.hotwacks.com and the News Ticker.  Visit often and have a wonderful week!
