"It's not over...Collect 'em all"... | |
There's a new ROLLING STONES generic label Euro release called "Cajun Queen's Afternoon Delight" 2CD which recycles the excellent audience tape from the afternoon 1975 Tour Of The Americas opener in Baton Rouge on June the 1st...Plenty of BOB DYLAN stuff to talk about, word on the street is that a double-CD compiling 60's radio broadcasts is forthcoming, perhaps as early as this week from Hollow Horn and is titled "Roar Of The Wave". New DYLAN from Thinman Records..."License To Sing" 2CD documents his March 13th, 1995 show in Prague, Czech Republic and "Train On Down To Brighton" 2CD contains an audience recording of his March 26th, 1995 Brighton, UK stop...also in the last 5 days Vintage Premium Masters issued "It's Great To Be Back In New York" 2CD that features the stereo soundboard tape of DYLAN & THE BAND at Madison Square Garden on January 31, 1974...a bit of a teaser here as there is more below but the new iteration of The Swingin Pig Label issued the DYLAN 2CD set, "Live 2007 Berlin" that serves us the May 3, 2007 show from Germany with some bonus tracks sourced from his November 21, 2005 Brixton Academy show in London... ...E.C. will be just about everywhere if Tarantura keeps it up...the label has recently issued the ERIC CLAPTON titles "Lovely People" 4CD Box Set containing the November 1st & 2nd 1974 shows at at The Budokan, the set is limited to 130 copies..and "Robbie's Birthday Party" 1CD of a soundboard tape, recorded at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 1974...then, Tarantura will issue two sizable CLAPTON sets this month...the big one is the 10CD Guildford Box Set that gathers all the the tapes from 5 shows performed in Guildford, Surrey, England at the City Hall on: ...and there's the Dallas '76 4CD Set that will package up the broadcast tape with the wonderful audience recording from the Convention Center on November 15th, 1976...Not to be outdone, Mid Valley coughed up a super limited (300 copies) 8CD/1DVD CLAPTON set called "7 Nights Of Pleasure" that documents his Far East Leg of The Journeyman Tour utilizing previously unreleased tapes. Despite the title, it includes 4 audio shows: December 4th & 6th at The Budokan in Tokyo, December 9th at Yoyogi Olympic Pool in Tokyo, and the last night in Japan on December 13, 1990 at Yokohama Arena, perhaps the DVD provides material from 3 other nights...For something completely different there's a new bootleg DVD on the market from Bad Wizard (Scorpio) that features the proshot performances of both FREE and EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER from Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo on July 22, 1972 and is titled "Super Summer 0722", it also includes a KEITH EMERSON interview clip... ...Back to The Swingin Pig topic now...the recently resurrected label spat out that DYLAN CD last week and has 3 new titles set to go for this week on CD that include:..RAINBOW "Swiss Made" 2CD is a show recorded at Winterthur, Switzerland on February 10th, 1980 with bonus rough mixes from the 1979 Down To Earth sessions...DEEP PURPLE "Slaves & Sessions" 2CD features their Berlin concert on February 18, 1991 with bonus demos from the 1990 Slaves & Masters sessions...and BLACK SABBATH "Bblingen & Born Again Demos 1981" 2CD captures the band's performance at the Sporthalle in Bblingen, Germany on September 28, 1983 and includes eight bonus Born Again demo tracks from June of 1983...ahh, on to the TSP Vinyl! There are some ambitious and crazy bootleg vinyl producers having a load of fun, pressing highly collectible but limited quantity splash & colored LPs as well as standard black vinyl fare - and it's gaining prominence. I've heard of a scarce few making it to U.S. Record Shows but they are predominently circulating around the Euro markets and you'll find them right now on eBay and other online markets for auction. The core product is leveraging the 1989-94 Swingin Pig Label on the back covers and Smoking Pig Labels on the front covers & records - and even mention TMOQ. What I love about this awesome resurgence is the slightly modified slogan printed on the goods that states..."I'ts not over - Collect 'em all!" It almost taunts the system and is quite fun to see. The move is bold in a day and age when recent, high profile bootlegging targets are being made examples of (e.g. Doberman Label Producer = 1 year in Prison)..and there's nothing more outlaw-like than the throwback bootleg LP. Our new producers are focused on PINK FLOYD titles for sure, but they have one of the coolest copycat pressings of anything as well with the notorious LED ZEPPELIN "The Option"...which is a contemporary duplication of the RSR International Label production of the 72LP Box "The Final Option" from the mid-80s that includes pretty much every ZEP vinyl boot that was known to exist and remember, this is pre-CD era...this new sturdier box is pressed on beautiful white splash vinyl too!...see below. It's going to be another quest to track some of these down and obtain at some sort of reasonable rate, it'll take some luck and connections too (or go nuts with the online auctions) with pressings mostly limited to 300 numbered copies - or less. There are other artists and other label monikers as well, adding to the intended confusion and amusement of the whole program...whoever it is has the 70s tactics and humor perfectly married with contemporary flair. The Euro Producer first cranked out THE ROLLING STONES "Brussels Affair 1973" which was reviewed by Riccar99 on these HotWacks Online pages back in October but the catalog is more robust than we even thought...since then these other titles have been pressed and are now in circulation: QUEEN RAINBOW THEATRE 1974 TMOQ-SWINGIN' PIG:TSP 300-8 That's all for this week! Now that we have formally slid into December I should remind you all to think over your 2007 bootleg acquisitions or review some releases so you can formulate your Top 10 List to post over the holidays here at HotWacks On-line. We'll be talking about it more but it's never too early to start the process! Have yourself a good one and I'll meet you back here next Monday night. Svengi, December 3, 2007 |
