...Sigma loses no steam this week by announcing two new PINK FLOYD titles that include "Creative Intelligence", a 3CD nice sounding audience tape recorded at the Palace Theatre in Manchester (UK) on December 9, 1974...also from Sigma, "Labrynths Of Coral Caves" 2CD which provides a nice contemporary re-issue of the great audience recording from Montreux, Switzerland and Claude Nobs' Casino on September 18, 1971 - this is a great show and should be worth tracking down a copy...Also arriving on the market this weekend is a new No Label JUDAS PRIEST set called "Midnight Explosion", the 2CD stereo soundboard documents their concert at Keil Auditorium in St. Louis on May 23, 1986...Another No Label DVD features RADIOHEAD "Glastonbury 2003", containing a 90 minutes proshot piece of their June 28th, 2003 performance...
...The Japanese Hercules Label has a couple of new DVD's that bring quite an assortment of artists to the table, and the productions are from two totally different eras. BOB DYLAN & FRIENDS "The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration" is something I've always wanted to see and it looks like this might be the very version to snap up as it includes rehearsal footage too. This double-DVD set brings us a veritable who's-who of participants & performers to Madison Square Garden back on November 16th, 1992 to pay tribute to ole Bob and celebrate his 30 years in the business - and his many contributions by performing a nice cross-section of his work. Also available now on DVD from Hercules is the theatrical print of the 1964 production of "That Was Rock", which is essentially a musical showcase of the array of popular acts emerging from different corners of the globe via the T.A.M.I Show. This production was filmed in front of 2600 fans at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in California in the Summer of '64. The short-lived theatrical run of the film first hit theaters in the USA in December '64 and elsewhere through the Winter of 1965. The bummer here is that THE BEACH BOYS performance(s) were edited out - presumably so they could leverage the footage later, but it wasn't to be. At least not yet. There are apparently versions of the complete, uncut T.A.M.I. Show in collector circulation but this theatrical version is of course edited down and apparently combined with another musical show called 'T-N-T' but I'm not completely certain of its' origin nor whose performances from this batch of clips are derived from it. I always thought it was just one show, combining all these acts. What we do know is that after JAMES BROWN performed, it changed MICK JAGGER forever, making him feel like he needed to start putting some theatrical dance steps into the performance and it has become a legendary tale in musical lore. Here is the DVD setlist for "That Was Rock":
