REVIEW: |
These days download discs are growing as far as collectors are concerned especially when proved to be outstanding products, compared to the many copycat work many labels do; one such project has recently started on IORR, the Stones collectors message board; this is a series of recordings provided by known collectors to present some side projects of members of the Rolling Stones (Ian
Stu Stewart, Charlie Watts
and Bill Wyman namely), who accompanied and paid tribute to one of the fathers of English blues: Alexis Korner.
The first broadcast has this
l
ine-up: Charlie Watts (dr)/Alexis Korner ( gtr)/Long John Baldry ( voc)/Ronnie Jones ( voc)/Jack Bruce (bass) Keith Scott (p)/Dick Heckstall-Smith (sax)/Cyril Davies (harm). Needs to be noted that Hoochie Coochie Man was officially released in July 1972 on the Alexis Korner album
Bootleg Him! (suggestion followed 45 year later) and credited to this session. Some notes by the maker say that the channel was duplicated in order to get a more intense sound and also the beginning and end of the session have been amplified. Track 5 has only got an amplified sound +4 db). It needs to be noted also that the recording happened exactly on the same date the Rollin Stones played their first ever gig with this name at the Marquee Club.
The second short radio broadcast features as line-up: Charlie Watts (dr)/Alexis Korner ( gtr)/Long John Baldry ( voc)/Ronnie Jones ( voc)/Jack Bruce (bass) Keith Scott (p)/Dick Heckstall-Smith (sax)/Cyril Davies (harm). These tracks were released on the cd
Alexis Korner ‘The BBC Sessions’ in 1994, Built For Comfort was misnamed as Everything She
Needs
.
For
both tracks the sound has been boosted (+4db).
The third broadcast has this
line-up: Ian Stewart (p)/Bob Hall (p)
on few songs and 13 other songs without him but with Eric Clapton, Chris Farlowe, Zoot Money, Paul Jones, Mel Collins etc. with 11 songs that ended up on The Party Album; actually there is only 1 song with Stu which is Pinetop s Boogie Woogie (Clarence Pinetop Smith) but that is a 4 minutes piano bonanza with Bob Hall on the left channel and Ian Stewart on the right exchanging those nice dynamic licks.
This is a very good quality stereo radio broadcast that was
split
in two parts (with comments by Alexis Korner)
;the gaps between tracks have been deleted and the transitions re-arranged as well as some noises having been deleted at 4’04 on 09, 7’50 on 11 and 3’35 on 12. The sound
was amplified too (from 0,6 to 1db).
Obviously
because of publicly
released stuff
there
are two version of this, the censored one that features a mere 7 songs and the uncensored one that has all tracks. |
