REVIEW:

Volume 08 presents Ian Stewart with George Thorogood & the Desatroyers Part 1 that features from 18 December 1981 the band opening for the Stones at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. The
line-up is: Stu* on piano, George Thorogood on guitar and vocals, Bill Blough on bass, Jeff Simon on drums and Hank Carter on sax; this concert was filmed in full as well as the Stones set.
For this show the full concert on Disc Ones comes from an audio rip of the NTSC VHS video tape: the sound is good but in lossy format, so for the second disc were used some DVDs in particular Hampton Coliseum – 18th December 1981   (WOW – 019) with backstage footage and part of Thorogood s show and   The RSVP Hampton  81 STEREO DTS 5.1   that contains just 4 tracks from the Thorogood show but in lossless format. This is why it was decided to present two versions of this show: one with the complete show but in lossy format and the other with the incomplete show in lossless format completed by some backstage warm-ups.
The stuff on Disc One coming from the audio rip of the NTSC VHS video tape is in lossy format, due to coming from VHS, but it is not lossy as if it was coming from a conversion to mp3 or similar).
It seems that STU didn t play on all tracks, he is probably not featured on tracks 3 and 4.
The second Disc comes from the audio rip of some DVDs, Hampton Coliseum – 18th December 1981 (WOW – 019), the first part of this DVD is a backstage report at the Hampton Coliseum and it was used for tracks1, 2 and 8. It contained a fragment of Thorogood s Move It On Over that can be heard in the background during Keith Richards warm-up on track 2.
The RSVP Hampton 81 STEREO DTS 5.1   - this one was used for the 4 tracks from the Thorogood show and Thorogood s return to the lounge backstage (track 7) with Keith Richards warming up (also with Ronnie unfortunately very low in the mix) and Thorogood joining in for the last notes; here too Stu is heard on tracks 3-6. On One Bourbon, Ine Scotch, One Beer for some seconds around minute 2 the sound is in stereo, but then goes back in mono and that is weird since these tracks are supposed to come from a 5.1 DVD.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
