From “The Lost Jamie Oldaker Tapes” (as the sticker on the back cover claims) comes a new soundboard to surface from the relatively short 1976 American tour in support of No Reason To Cry. It is a nice clean, dry soundboard with good balance between the instruments. The Houston show is about one week into the tour and the band sounds excellent. This show comes two days before the famous Dallas radio broadcast for the King Biscuit Flower Hour that has been booted to death so another new perspective from this tour is a welcomed addition.

The show opens with a couple from the new No Reason To Cry LP featuring Clapton on acoustic with some nice electric guitar work from George Terry. Although the set list would mostly stay the same, there were a few change ups from night to night. They roll through a great version of Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie”, a song which was featured mostly in the 1974 tour and was played as far back as the Dominos era. The marathon version of “Tell The Truth” has some moments during the solo that don’t seem to be leading anywhere. Yvonne Elliman gets a shot at one of her own songs recently recorded with “Love Me” in place of the usual “Can’t Find My Way Home” and Marcy Levy will be later featured during Elvis’ “One Night”.

The middle of the set returns to a few more song from the new LP where Eric shares the lead vocal with George Terry on “All Our Past Times” and “Double Trouble” gives us some nice blues. Inspired versions of Clapton’s earlier favorites fill out the rest of this performance with “I Shot The Sheriff” as the encore. “Further On Up The Road” may have been played as a second encore but there is no evidence here to support that.

Definitely recommended, the band sounds tight and there is good vibes throughout the evening. Mid Valley continuously issues excellent packaging with their product including a mini tour program replica and an insert printed on high gloss paper. This mini tour program is the same one that was also included in their Cowboy Here and There (MVR 251/252) release as well. The cover art is a take off of Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland LP cover released in the UK where naked women are holding copies of some of Eric’s LPs.
