REVIEW:

Night #4 of the six night stand for CSNY at The Fillmore East in 1970.  Night #2 in Aurora Borealis' double volume of these back-to-back performances.  Again, this is a stellar soundboard that isn't complete as the first four songs of the peformance were cut from the original tape.

I am on the fence with the approach taken with the missing beginning.  You can look at it 2 ways:  The label has provided bonus tracks from December 14th, '69 in Detroit....or Aurora Borealis has "preserved the actual setlist" by taking the liberty of using the same four tunes from the Detroit concert.  As a listening experience, it works with the 4 tunes in question put on the front of the core tape from June 5th, rather than tacking them on the tail end as typical bonus material. The tape used from Detroit is also great, though "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" is cut.

Wild Wolf's "Read The Airplane" release simply took the 3 songs, "Laughing", "The Lee Shore" & "Woodstock" from this performance and used them as bonus tracks for their title from the June 4th concert.  Again, the sound here on the Original Master Series release from Aurora Borealis is an upgrade in sound.  Plus, you have the complete tape as it currently exists.

The artwork again matches the sister release of Volume 1 and is thoughtful and classic to match the release.  Nice use of pictures and layout just gives it a good feel for the listening experience.  I try to look at these with the same sentiment as we once did with LP's!....are they interesting to look at?  In this case, yes.

The performance here is a little more whimsical than the previous night.  Even though the June 4th show is hampered by lengthy tuning sessions, the actual performances were a little more passionate altogether.  Here, we have spontenaity.  Not a bad trade-off really!..and we get a nice version of "Woodsock" to boot!

Completeists should have this one for sure, otherwise you may prefer picking up Volume 1 if it comes down to picking up one of the shows.
