REVIEW:

The concert Sheryl Crow played at New York s Central Park in September 1999 has come out officially and 2 songs have been broadcasted by VH1 (Happy and Tombstone Blues)m however the dress rehearsals that took place the day before has recently surfaced presenting a nice soundboard recording which   will   make happy many collectors. The basic band line up consisted of: Sheryl Crow on guitars, bass, vocals and harmonica, Tim Smith on bass electric guitars and background vocals, Peter Stroud on guitars, Emily Robinson on guitar, Jim Bogios on drums, Ash Sood on tambourine, Martie Seidel on fiddle,  Mike Rowe on keyboards, Matt Brubeck on bass and cello, Mary Rowell on acoustic guitar and violin. Among the guests noticeable are: Eric Clapton (White Room-Little Wing, Tombstone Blues), Keith Richards (Happy, Sweet Little Rock n Roller, Tombstone Blues Stevie Nicks (Gold Dust Woman), Chrissie Hynde (If It Makes You Happy).Sarah McLachlan (Angel, The Difficult Kind) Dixie Chicks (Mississippi, Strong Enough).
This is the dress rehearsal for the following night s concert, which was recorded for the Sheryl Crow and Friends Live From Central Park album, there are almost the same songs as what was played at the concert, but for some others not featured on the album  like Angel (Sarah McLachlan) which opens the set with 4 takes, Mississippi, Little Wing   and Sweet Little Rock n Roller . At some points, it is possible to hear stagehands talking, tuning and other minor background noises, which could be deleted if any boot label plans to release this material; the overall the sound is great though, being a soundboard; interesting are also some in between songs comments that reveal interesting bits. After Strong Enough takes with the Dixie Chicks enters Stevie Nicks for Gold Dust Woman, a Fleetwood Mac song from Rumours followed by My Favorite Mistake which was the first single from The Globe Session album, a song believed to have been written about Clapton, others think it could be about Jakob Dylan from the Wallflowers. Talking about Dylan Mississippi comes from Love and Theft, Bob s 2001 album, here played with the Dixie Chicks again. Sheryl Crow s own hit from 1996 If It Makes You Happy follows in 2 takes with the help of Chrissie Hynde. It s only Rock n Roll-says Keith Richards at the end of Happy-now what should I do, go home? Chuck Berry answers S. Crow and after few verses sung by her, Keith re-starts Sweet Little Rock n Roller. Cream s White Room opens Eric Clapton s set, soon followed by a nice version of Jimi Hendrix Little Wing. There Goes The Neighborhood is yet another song from the Globe Sessions album, on the studio take Bobby Keys played saxophone, but he is not featured here. The last song, Dylan s Tombstone Blues is the grand finale featuring all guests on stage together. This is a nice recording that popped up unexpectedly about 20 years later in a surprising good shape, great to have.
