REVIEW:

This release presents a couple of Faces shows filmed at the beginning of their short comeback tour. It starts with a promo video shot for Genesis Publication who just released a mammoth tome called Faces 1969-1975 that shows the band rehearsing at Kenney Jones house. Then it is up to the Cornbury Festival., the first appearance by the new Faces that featured Mick Hucknall on vocals and Glen Matlock on bass. The video is a combination of two audience sources, the first of good quality but distant from the stage, unfortunately the taper s equipment wasn t very good and when it zooms in there is a notable loss of quality of the images; the second one (see “Ooh La La” and from “Debris” through the end of the concert) has the taper closer to the stage and images quality improves even if there seems to be a limiter to the audio microphone on the first 2 songs that compress the soundtrack, but after them the sound becomes excellent. Anyway all songs are complete and in full colour and shot in 16:9.

The final encore “Stay With Me” was actually released officially on a double cd from the Festival promoters just few weeks after the event.

The second footage comes from Ewhurst concert held later and is excellent having been shot from just one feet from the stage: video quality is stunning and sound too; there is a fantastic close up of Kenney Jones playing the drum solo on “(I Know) I m Losing You”   and then camera shows Ian McLagan and others looking at it from backstage. This time the Faces added two Small Faces encores to their set adding “Tin Soldier” and “All Or Nothing”; another hot spot is dertainly “Stay With Me” with great close up on Ron Wood s guitar solo. The only complaint about this footage is: where is the first part of the show?

We then move to Japan where at first three songs appeared as audience from Fuji Rock Festival 11 where the band was invited to play at the end of July. This footage is shot from a real distance and despite zooming in the details are lost, it does get better when the screen from the stage side is shot.

The final chapter of this release has the Rob Brydon show from England with an interview to Ron Wood and Mick Hucknall that played a short version of “Ooh La La” in the studio as a duet before the whole band showed up for “Stay With Me”.
