REVIEW:

Of all the recent releases from the reformed Faces this one is certainly the best as it documents the concert in great stereo sound. The Faces presence in Japan in order to perform at the Fuji Rock Festival   was greeted by over sympathizing fans that had a chance to taste the band s unique rock and roll feel that despite many essential line up changes still remains close to its original output. In fact this live recording presents what could be called a live Best of… that may as well come out officially. The rhythm section is driving and solid while Ron Wood guitar and Ian McLagan keyboard works match their former consistency; someone could object to Mick Hucknall vocals being much different to Rod Stewart rusty humming but they do fit the songs despite not being as raucous.  In addition to the usual set list we get "Flying" and  "I Wish It Would Rain" together with a nice medley at the end of Disc One featuring another classic: "Gasoline Alley" amidst snippets of other songs all played solo by Wood s slide. Highlight of the second Disc is a great version of "I'd Rather Go Blind" that Mick Hucknall soulful voice interprets perfectly in accordance with the original. At the beginning and end of "Pool Hall Richard" there is the sound of broken glass just like on the 70s studio version. Two encores bring to mind the Small Faces before the third and final one ("Stay With Me") closes the show powerfully.

The whole product is very professionally assembled and does constitute a nice live memento of this band s unexpected reunion.
