REVIEW:

This compilation, subtitled Video Archives Vol.2 with Jagger solo Concerts being Volume 1, presents a number of copies of known Jointrip discs assembled together at a great price, a good way to get the lot of them together. Disc One is a copy of Solo 1970-2001, a Jagger video collection that brings out solo songs and collaborations from 1970 through 2001. The first three promo videos all have album audios replace the original soundtrack that accompanied the films and video excerpts. The fourth segment is a mini documentary on Peter Tosh and his band on how they made it into the States with the help of he Stones throughout a live tv exhibition of Don t Look Back, followed by Bette Midler version of Beast Of Burden with a cameo appearance from Jagger. The infamous soundtrack for Ruthless People comes on, with the song sung over ending credits of the film before Jagger duet with Bowie for Live Aid. Four videos from the film shot to promote She s The Boss. Another 4 promo videos for Primitive Cool (with soundtrack replaced by album version) and two from Wandering Spirit before the 2001 Electronic Press Kit for Goddess In The Doorway from Virgin that shows promo videos and interviews, the last track being a promo trailer for Being Mick the tv special broadcasted on Jagger s life. Disc Two was originally called It s Only Rock n Roll and is split in 2 chapters, She s The Boss Alternate Video Mixture which presents different promo videos for Jagger solo tunes taken from Running Out Of Luck film with the album songs used as soundtrack. The second segment presents the Old Grey Whistle Test programme from 8 April 1985 that features a Jagger interview by David Hepworth from Paris February 1985 (with Japan subtitles) with assorted live clips, some of which aren t mentioned on track listings (Satisfaction, Let s Spend The Night Together, Honky Tonk Women, , Half A Loaf, Secrets, Sympathy For The Devil).

The following 2 discs were originally called Sweet Big Apple offering on Disc Three a true 24 bit stereo version of the Webster s Hall 1993 concert plus a Japanese TV special called M.Jagger in New York that includes a Jagger interview originally done in January, but broadcasted in mid May. Disc Four opens with the famous Saturday Night Live broadcast where Jagger plays Keith Richards and plays two songs live, then we get the rehearsals that happened 2 day befoe, footage is a bit grainy but in colour with a still camera while the band plays a number of different songs. It is followed by Count Down Late which is a broadcast from Holland that includes the Jagger interview from January broadcasted in Japan with Holland subtitles and a short interview of Jerry Hall and then another episode of SNL from 2001 from the Virgin sampler, this time Jagger impersonates Kurt Lagerfeld. Discs Five and Six are copies of D-Stone 7887 with Disc Five that opens with a rare 1978 Jagger interview by Stomu Yamahita from the tv documentary Go, followed by a 1982 interview which is broadcasted amidst lots of various rock videos from 1971 through 1981; next a 1983 interview for Japan tv recorded in new York in 1983 and finally a programme from MTV broadcasted in Japan with subtitles, with an exclusive interview for Japan tv from March 85. The last disc presents a Japan version (with subtitles) of Jagger in Paris where he is interviewed by Jools Holland, two different takes of the Live Aid segments, the Japanese one lacking Dylan songs but in better quality and finally some 1098 European tv videos where Jagger perform the songs, although in playback. This collection of DVDs is interesting for any collector that may have left some of these behind, presenting lots of rare materials, especially some Japan programmes in very good quality though sorted obviously from VHS source.
