REVIEW:

A nice document of the PETA Benefit Concert for McCartney fans, though I don't quite understand the title "Party Of The Century".  You certainly don't get that feeling from watching the show!  This is directly taken from Master Tape and the quality is flawless, both audio and video.  This is the standard you get from the Watch Tower Label, they really do a nice job with whatever product they put out.

The first half of the DVD is devoted to rehearsals earlier, the day of the show.  Frankly, the Paul McCartney portion here is rather difficult to withstand for the casual fan.  It's a rehearsal so, it moves along slowly through their set preparations.  Ol' Paul can sure put together a band though!  He's got Pink Floyd Guitarist, David Gilmour, and Deep Purple Drummer Ian Paice anchoring the rest.  The most enjoyable part of this DVD is surprisingly, the Chrissie Hynde and B-52's rehearsal segment.  They are funny, loose and Chrissie has a helluva time with the Producer and techs on the job, as they have been provided with the wrong backing tape and she tries to set the whole thing straight.  A true professional.  And I think that's what we take away from documents like this.  They aren't meant to be seen by the masses but, it really gives us an insight as to how they prepare and work through their projects.  The same can be said for the B-52's.  They've been around the block a few times and after lending some lip-synching backup "vocals" to Chrissie on "I'll Stand By You", they nail this version of their own "Love Shack".  Very fun to watch but what happened to their part of the actual show?

Paul's set is exactly what you would expect from him.  It's slick, his voice is dead on and the set effective.  I don't particularly care for the song selections he chose from his own catalog but, the rock standard of "Honey Hush" and Ricky Nelson's "Lonesome Town" come off very well.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
