REVIEW:

Flash In Space documents the first concert on Queen's Hot Space tour in North American.  Breakdown use the two source mix that is commonly traded.  The main tape is a very good stereo recording bordering on excellent.  It is a bit fuzzy especially in the lower frequencies.  The second source is very good mono and is used to fix the gaps in the first source.  These edits are in "Now I'm Here", "Calling All Girls" and several smaller bits in "Under Pressure", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Bohemian Rhapsody".   The edits are handled very well and there is no loss of enjoyment of the show.

This was a couple of weeks after the famous Milton Keynes show and they sound a little rusty.  They play six songs from the new album with "Calling All Girls" making its live debut.  "Hello Montreal" Freddie says before "Play The Game".  "It's good to see you back so soon" refering to Queen's two gig appearance in Montreal the previous November to film We Will Rock You.  (Incidently those concerts are the live debut of "Under Pressure").  Before "Staying Power" Freddie says, "We're gonna play some new things tonight...if you want to come on stage and boogie, we' won't hurt you".  Freddie experiements with a harmonizer on "Body Language" and they cut the duration of the song on this tour.

Breakdown are a prolific label.  They really like to crank these titles out.  The cdrs have a label attached to the discs and the artwork is printed on only one side.  The overall production values look like shit but this is an essential concert for fans of Hot Space (like me).  Not only are these shows the only live source for most of that album.  In subsequent tours only "Under Pressure" would be retained in its entirety while half of "Staying Power" was used early in The Works tour before being dropped, never to surface again.  The early medley and acoustic set was also dropped.  This is a great sounding tape and the beginning of their final tour of this continent which makes it special.
