Could You Walk On The Water? This was the title of an LP scheduled for release by the Stones on 10 March 1966 :the front cover was just the heads of the band members sticking out of a water reservoir. Decca refused to issue that or any record with such a title; some of the artworks shots actually ended up on Big Hits (High Tide & Green Grass) with the Stones standing next to a California reservoir and not on the water itself. Most of the songs were eventually released on Aftermath which came out in the UK on April 15 ^th   1966 and in the US with a slightly different track listing on July 1 ^st 1966. Other songs were eventually issued in the States on the compilation album Flowers released on July 14 ^th 1967; Looking Tired has never been officially released but it is a well known track that first appeared on the underground album Bright Lights, Big City, recorded at Hollywood RCA Studios on September 6 ^th 1965.   Actually there have been many underground releases bearing this title and using the same concept, Could You Walk Upon the Water? (Pignose PGN 054), Could You Walk On the Water? (VGP 027) showing the cover shot from the Big Hits session, but whose content was different with 70s outtakes and Could You Walk On Water (Sister Morphine 014) both as 1 disc and 2 discs. Also in 2006 appeared what should have been the cover artwork for the vinyl album which would have included on Side One: 19^th Nervous Breakdown, Sad Day, Take It Or Leave It, Think, Mother s Little Helper and on Side Two: Goin Home (short version), Sittin On A Fence, Don t You Follow Me (Doncha Bother Me original title), Ride On Baby and Looking Tired, the real title being Could YOU Walk on the Water? that also had a cartoon design of the band along the water on the inner side; all tracks supposedly in stereo except for Sad Day presented in enhanced mono. A vinyl album with a similar concept came out in 2011 titled Aftermath Alternate Album (TSP 500-92/1).

So, here is a re-creation of the famous unreleased Rolling Stones album conceived on December 1965. Unlike previous attempts by others, this version uses the actual correct track listing as per Abkco s inventory. It is still unclear which mixes would have appeared on the actual album, but it is now known that it would have contained the full-length Goin Home with opening slate and false start. The final master for the album was handed on December 14^th  and it might have appeared in time for Christmas season, but because of Decca objections to the title and an eventual new batch of songs, the album was scrapped and revamped as Aftermath. The original album sequence has been re-created here in both mono and stereo. To be noted is the original mono mix of  19th Nervous Breakdown, free of the serious tape damage in the intro that has been causing problems for engineers since the 70s. Also, a true stereo mix of Sad Day is sadly still not available, so that track appears only in mono. Musically B.Jones is on harpsichord on Take it or Leave it, Sittin on a Fence and Ride on Baby, Jack Nitzche plays piano on Sad Day, while Ian Stewart on Looking Tired. This is an interesting project, something only creative fans could conceive, no bootlegger or regular company for sure.
