REVIEW:

The Stones concert at Paris Olympia in April 65 has been released many times over the years, let s remember on vinyl Get Your Kicks Mona (M-L 6465), Fuckin and Suckin (RS TAP 010 PRO), Gravestones and Rape of the Vaults 2 LP (RSVP 002-3), Andrew s Blues (Slipped Disc Rec. SX-TT 979), Live in Paris 1965/Live in Sweden 1964 Plus Studio Demos 2 LP (no label), Dix Neuf Cent Soixante Quatre (Bandido Rec.004) and The Real Alternate Album Studio Works 1961-65 (RTR 006). On compact it can be found on All Those Years Ago (VGP 079), A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss (VGP 101), Reelin and Rockin (VGP 274), Paris Match (Gold Standard SCO 15 and DAC 007 ) , Olympia Live Sixties (GP 1302), From Paris to Honolulu (Silver Rarities 312), Still I m Gonna Miss You (VGP 073), Andrews Blues (Dragonfly IMP 1126), Down The Road Apiece (Bad Wizard 6167), Rough Dirty and Irresistible (DR 012), Gods in Olympia (TMOQ 02-04), Raw Power (BMCD 41), L’Olympia Paris (Pyramid Rec. RFT CD 09),, Our Last Concert Ever (Sister Morphine MORPH 57), Du Fond Du Coeur (FF 01) Live in USA 64-66 (BPCD 027), The Live R.S. Paris 17 1965 ( BG CD 011), Live in Paris 1965 (On Stage Rec.2215),66Route (GFR 262), Olympia 65 Satisfaction & Beyond (GFR 484), Olympia Live in the Sixties (GP 1302 CD) and finally From Paris to Munich (IMP-N 051) which presented a great version with pitch correction and no hiss. It must be said however that there have always been two sources for this show, one recorded the AM broadcast with a microphone from the radio speaker on Andrews Blues LP (IMP 1126), but in 1994 the same title came out on cd Andrews Blues (VGP 006) presenting another source with recording coming from reel to reel tape with no extra noise. Like the vinyl album Get Your Kicks (Mona Rec.) released in 1982 this release attempts to get the best from all sources in order to create the best possible version, since that concert has been rebroadcasted many times from the mid 90s but always some songs have been missing; it is easy to find out which songs have not been rebroadcasted so far since they have hiss due to their analogue source; another plus here is about 1 minute before Off The Hook which was missing in previous releases.

Also on that album there was the Joe Loss Pop Show, which is here anyway complete with the appearance of Not Fade Away at the beginning as well as a complete Hi Heel Sneakers that always lacked the first verse. Moreover just 2 songs (Oh Baby and The Spider and the Fly) were included in the original vinyl album while here the 1965 Top of the Pops tracks come within between songs talks (never heard Brian Matthews comment before and after Down The Road Apiece), all sourced from transcription discs that ensure the best of quality. On the   March 65 recording however If You Need Me is still missing, like Oh Baby and The Spider and the Fly from the August 30th show and   Satisfaction and Cry To Me from the 18th September broadcast, this means that if some tape will pop up we may get these broadcasts again. Packaging is fine with lots of information on the back cover, however it is not clear why all radio shows have been called Top of the Pops since they had their own name (Yeh Yeh! and Top Gear).
