REVIEW: |
The Stones 1970
European tour had various gaps one of which surfaced later, the Helsinki
concert from the beginning of the tour, in fact this was just the second date
after Malmo. Unfortunately, this concert is not complete as it ends with Midnight
Rambler because the cassette time ended: looks like the taper didn’t know how
to turn the cassette and start recording again, if we believe that version, or
maybe the rest of the concert will pop up sometime in the future. In the
meantime, the first label to put it out as Live in Helsinki (DAC 095) which
added the remaining songs from Malmoe 70 set list. The recording was also
released in 2009 on Helsinki 2nd September 1970 cdr and in 2012 on
You Dreamers… 2 cdr (Dasuye NHK); lately on European Tour 1970/71 (WLR Hermetic
Society HS 701) 20 cds box.
This
recording is still incomplete but it is in stereo, and although biased to the
right channel it presents a better version because the buzz that affected the DAC
release has been drastically reduced as well as all the noise and most of distortion.
However, there are is an interesting thing to notice, as brass are heard
through Love In Vain whose arrangement differs from the one on the 1969 US
Tour. To complete the disc some tracks from Frankfurt 70 1st concert
have been added.
