REVIEW: |
This
release is not new, as per front cover it came out 5 years ago and was uploaded
on a now defunct torrent site, famous for delivering (virtual) viruses far too
often with any download. Anyway it offers a nice combination of the Oakland shows in audience
quality and a third disc that presents the Bill Graham 1972 broadcast in mono
soundboard with an additional number of live songs from 1969 also in soundboard
quality. Whatever the reason this release hasn t got much publicity and in fact
was quite unknown until been recently offered on IORR, the Stones fans message
board. Now it must be said that quality is real high here, the first Oakland show never
sounded that crisp and remarkably consistent throughout.
Likewise
the second show that, apart from the great stereo matrix release that came out
about a year ago, is in great shape too. However,
the real gem here is the third disc that
presents soundboard tracks among which the Bill Graham broadcasts as well as a
bunch of other audience tracks that have so far surfaced from the 1969 US Tour,
most but not all in mono, anyway it must be said that the Bill Graham tracks
are without too much hiss and that makes a change; the most significant
difference being the greater presence of Wyman s bass that is often low in all
audience recordings.
Packaging
offers very nice artwork, unfortunately only aimed at having 3 separate single
discs, however with a minimal effort it is possible to create fatboy artworks
using the ones provided, I reckon that having everything in one set would be
better.
