REVIEW:

This release presents the first date of the European 1970 Stones tour, this recording had appeared in 2 sources, both in mono, the first in 1994 called Sweden 1970 (VGP 032) copied in 1997 on Made In Sweden 3cd (VGP 105) which included Stockholm and Gothenburg but had a bad second part and the second in 2010 on It’s Just A Kiss Away (DAC 101) clearer but marred by a disturbing hiss from Gimme Shelter onwards. In 2010 too came out Down In The Bottom (Dasuje Nhk) a 2 cdr from Japan offering a different source still in mono but marred by distortions except for the acoustic numbers, then in 2013 2 tracks appeared on Secrets Travel Fast (Scorpio STF 1970) in mono soundboard quality while 6 can be found on Live in Helsinki 1970 (DAC 095) but then a new source appeared on a cdr called Baltisk Hallen, Malmo 1970 (no label) and while this released is said to come from a remaster of the original tape, more likely this is where it comes from, although a bit clearer there is still distortion in the background, however the taper seems to have gotten closer to the stage and the recording improves from Love in Vain onwards and if the first part had been like the second this would really be a great upgrade. Anyway, this concert is the only one featuring Gimme Shelter in the whole tour, it seems that Richard hadn’t yet figured out how to play the intro though, maybe that was the reason for not playing the song again until 1972.
