REVIEW:

This release from Xavel presents the first IEM matrix recording from the latest Stones UK Tour. The first show on the London Stadium venue is here presented in excellent quality, all instruments and vocals are quite neat and well mixed, maybe the audience participation  is a bit too low in the mix and Jagger a tad too high, but that does not prevent enjoyment of the music which comes out loud and clear presenting a lively concert offered in the best possible audio conditions. Getting an IEM recording is quite a job, bootleggers have to use scanners to get the right frequency (even away from the venue) and record all of them, later mixing the lot with a good audience source to supplement what is missing and add the concert feel.  Musically it is possible here to get the guitars separated, each in its own channel, and that is a plus for fans that love discerning who is playing what. The brass section entrance during Tumbling Dice is excellent and there is really no difference from a true soundboard recording and this matrix work. The surprise track undoubtedly is Fool To Cry, played with confidence; in fact the band plays well, relaxed but with the right punching attitude when needed (Ride em On Down) and that provides the best Stones live experience. There are also some unexpected Jagger comments (apart from forgetting to introduce Darryl Jones), like just before Midnight Rambler when he remembers having played as a band their first gig at the Marquee in London in 1962, thanking the audience for continuously coming to see them live; probably not one audience member was at the Marquee in 1962 though. Packaging is accurate, like only Japanese bootleggers do, providing extra pleasure to collectors that will opt for purchasing this as well as the other three releases of the series.
