REVIEW: |
This release
has on Disc One a copy of what was a newly found audience recording of the
Stones San Diego 69. This concert was released on vinyl as San Diego Sixty Nine
(Box Top and TMOQ 71078), Midnight Ramblers 2lp (Phoenix Rec. 44785), Bill
Wyman and the R.Stones (Blue Ribbon 001 and IMP on blue vinyl), 2nd
Incarnation with 11 songs (Wizardo 387) and Stoneage (K&S 027). On compact Stoneaged/San
Diego 69 (VGP 008-TMOQ 71078) in December 1996, It’s No Hanging Matter (VGP 096
complete with New York 72) and then as Nasty Habits, Water Rats & A Woman’s
Touch (Sister Morphine 32). Also, on VGP it came out again called Second
Incarnation (VGP 369) offering an excellent document of the gig. This time the
recording has much more depth with Wyman upfront and a great solo from Mick
Taylor on Love In Vain. Despite its rather offensive and unjustified title Fuck
You San Diego (Country Trash 1228) presented a new stereo source for this show had
it on silver, soon replicated on San Diego ’69 (MFA 9). For some reason in 2018
came out Midnight Ramblers (DAC 184) with the usual 10 mono songs, while the
whole set can also be found on In Concert 1969 (WLE 2160) 12 cds box.
Liver Than
You’ll Ever Be (TSP CD 043) had Under My Thumb like Revolution Sixty Nine
(Great Dane 9105); San Diego 69 Revisited, Stoneaged (WPCOM 1189 D-043) from
vinyl, incomplete and 3 tracks can be found on Super Precious Tracks vol.8
(Black Panther 058), 8 on More Rock’n Roll Circus (LLRCD 058); Live With Me is
on Ultra Rare Trax vol.7 (The genuine Pig 130) while Honky Tonk Women and
Street Fighting Man on vol.9 (TGP 132). This is an excellent recording, stereo
and complete which represents at its best one great gig. Disc Two has a bunch
of known tracks including the 3ones from Detroit; unfortunately the Press
Conference claimed to be the October Los Angeles one is instead the well-known
New York one (Are you anymore satisfied now?)
