REVIEW:

It is always nice to get a previously uncirculated recording especially since this would seem to be the first complete one to ever appear. Previously just an incomplete bootleg called Vancouver 89 (Rockin Rott) existed but had the last 9 songs missing, including all of Happy. Maker s comments: The appearance of the almost complete show from Vancouver was a great find, just the end of Happy is still missing. This recording is good but it was running a little too fast. So thanks to StoneyRoad work fans can dig a 7% slowed down version of the concert… (in my opinion is still too fast at the beginning though, ed.) the improvements are notable in the sound output and as bonus have been added two tracks matrix sources coming mixing the Rockin Rott version (on the left) and the new version on the right.
Mastering Notes:
Tape flip @ 2:40 during Rock And A Hard Place - faded out and back in, some music lost
Tape flip during Happy - faded out, some music lost
Tape flip during the Encore Break audience clapping - clapping fades out and Jumping Jack Flash fades in, just one second or two of music lost
These were the original taper (crowflies) comments: the sound in the stadium was pretty bad, at least from where I sat; considering that, this recording is definitely listenable. Mick says something on how nice was to be back in Vancouver, it was 17 years before when the Stones first came here and there were riots outside the arena on the first show of the Exile On Main Street Tour (June 3rd 1972). Taper location was fairly close, off to the side, stage left.
Let s remember the line-up: Mick Jagger on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Keith Richards on guitar and vocals, Ron Wood on guitar, Bill Wyman on bass, Charlie Watts on drums, Bobby Keys on tenor sax, Chuck Leavell on keyboards, Matt Clifford on keyboards and French horn), Lisa Fischer, Bernard Fowler and Cindy Mizelle on backing vocals and The Uptown Horns on brass [Arno Hecht on tenor sax, Robert Bob Funk on trombone, Crispin Cioe on alto sax and Paul Hollywood Litteral on trumpet].
This is a good document of the Stones 89 visit to Vancouver, despite being a bit distant and having too much audience noise (damn whistles!) especially at the beginning, as for the 2 matrix songs they just prove that the former available version was a bit better with less audience noise and a wider sound, let s hope the recording from the following day may also turn up one day.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
