REVIEW:

This new cd release from OBR presents those tracks that have been the subject of the vinyl release from the same label awhile ago, but with bonus tracks. Opening the gatefold cover it is possible to get some clue on where to get information on them (the great Weissbuch three books) as well as on a future release (Volume Three in vinyl format) and looking at the discs itself, it is possible to notice it was printed on October 2018, or at least that is what it says; there is also information on these cardboard covers that are limited to 150 numbered copies.

First of all it must be noticed that the sound output seems to be better than what it was on vinyl and not due to the medium, due to a great remastering job performed by the label s engineer. It is not known if this remastering job has included speed correction, however it shall be noted that almost all songs are some seconds longer compared to the vinyl versions; this seems to be true for new outtakes too, for instance The Dog is reported on Weissbuck to last 4.36 minutes, while here it clocks in at 4.41.

Heartbeat is the full band version that had previously appeared on All About You (DAC 187), Complete Undercover Definitive Sessions (Goldplate 1701) excerpt only, Too Much Blood (DAC 182), The Virchov Tape (DAC 181) excerpt only; this track has also been know in Keith Richards solo version from the Honeymoon tapes. Here however there are 2 more versions of this song with regards to the vinyl counterpart.3.19 the first take, 1.48 the second, instrumental take and 1.11 the third take, instrumental too.

Can t Find Love is version 1 (over 7 minutes long) that can be found on Complete Undercover Definitive Sessions (Goldplate 1701 (just 30 seconds) and on Too Much Blood (DAC 182); this is a more spaced out version with Jagger falsetto vocals that help building up the pace, he also plays electric piano with Richards on guitar and backing vocals (at times not in synch). Something I Want (Your Love) is the basic version of what was previously known as What Am I Gonna Do With Your Love which is the 8.32 minutes long demo version that was for the first time available on the vinyl release, featuring both Jagger and Richards on lead vocals. Forty is a 4.33 minutes instrumental demo take that can be found on All About You (DAC 187), Complete Undercover Definitive Sessions (Goldplate 1701) excerpt only, The Virchov Tape (DAC 181) excerpt only; here both guitars have a phasing or flanging effect which is very prominent.

Tie You Up (The Pain Of Love) that opens Side B is the 10.01 minutes early jam slower version with three guitars, an instrumental track available here for the first time. The Golden Mile is here in the 8.58 minutes version, available on All About You (DAC 187), Too Much Blood (DAC 182), The Virchov Tape (DAC 181) excerpt only. What comes after is the first version of Feel On Baby, 2.06 minutes long, that was available on the vinyl version for the first time, featuring Richards on lead vocals and Jagger on backing vocals. Then comes Christine, a 2.22 bluesy instrumental that features a slide guitar and   nice piano played by Stu, also available on All About You (DAC 187), Complete Undercover Definitive Sessions (Goldplate 1701) excerpt only and on The Virchov Tape (DAC 181) excerpt only.

The last song is completely new and a great bonus to have called Pull Over, which is a fast instrumental track that lasts 5.01 minutes and sounds a bit like Summer Romance speeded up, with three guitars working for the whole length exchanging licks.   At around 3.50 Jagger starts screaming some lyrics, pretty much off the mike, followed at 4.25 by a nice guitar solo.

So this release, again unexpected, presents best quality outtakes, mostly the same from the vinyl version with some nice bonus tracks. Packaging is very similar to the one on the vinyl albums, as in OBR custom, however it will be intriguing to see the new cardboard versions as well as the promised Volume Three which will undoubtedly present new fine outtakes for the joy of collectors that love studio tracks, while waiting for the new Stones album to materialize.
