REVIEW:

Apocalypse Sound certainly knows how to present marginal material in the best possible manner.  Not to imply this proshot source from The River Tour isn't worthy of such fine acoutriments but - they had me going with the stellar package!

This is as near-complete document you will find of a 3 hour + show but we will continue to keep fingers crossed for a lower-generation print of the high energy gig.  What this disc is really missing is some bolder audio to marry up and that would bring the whole thing to life.  As it stands, this show is cool to watch but makes it seem 3 hours and then some because the audio track is so thin.  On the video side it's a bit washed out but the images aren't blurred or anything so we you can certainly get into the performance aspects.  What's kind of funny is that we get to see the "prime-time" BRUCE starting to gain some traction with the cheesy-side of performance.  Let's face it, as fond of memories as we have of this era and this tour, it's all getting pretty slick and campy already by 1980.  And I thought this was my favorite ESB tour!...I've had to re-think my preferences and there's a trend taking shape as I keep pushing the favorite performances back a few years or to earlier tours.

Apocalypse Sound gets top marks for the whole presentation of this fine document and SPRINGSTEEN collectors will need to acquire this one for the rare DVD appearance this Landover video is making on bootleg DVD.  I'm pretty certain this is it's first commercial bootleg and that makes it must-have for the die-hards right there.  Casual fans and collectors may not appreciate this completely due to the weakness of the soundboard audio, it's flat and mono.
