REVIEW:

This concert from Mick Taylor s beginning of his solo career came out as a no label cdr releases called Rick s American Café  and Rick s American Place and is here presented for the first time on silver; it features a high quality soundboard from New Jersey, the band consisted of Taylor on guitar, Max Middleton on keyboards, Wayne Hammond on bass and Mike Cullen on drums and Angelo on congas and percussions on Going South and Can t You Hear Me Knocking. This release comes from a new label that presents nice recordings in lavish art covers. This is a nice sounding recording  that showcases the very first solo Taylor ability to play great solos with his unique trademark vibrato style both rhythmic and melodic at the same time, well supported by a tight ensemble. At that time Taylor was leaving even stage announcements to Wayne Hammond who is in fact announcing songs throughout the show. As for the songs there is a long South American style instrumental on Disc One called Going South that clocks in at 16.25 minutes; at the end of Disc One there is a band s introduction which is repeated during Can t You Hear Me Knocking  that clocks in at 19.57 minutes where each band member is granted an instrumental solo. The final Jimi Hendrix tune is a tribute to the great late guitar hero. This is a very nice release that will certainly please old and new collectors.
