REVIEW:

This 1992 West Coast tour saw Mick Taylor with Jimmie Wood on lead vocals, Jimmy King Amason on guitar, Greg Boaz on bass and David Salinas on drums and this band that played the San Diego Free Fall Festival in mid September. This video, although not from an early generation is a multicamera pro shot recording that offers a precious glimpse into this incarnation of the Mick Taylor Band. This time most compositions come from the Woods-King-Taylor catalogue, a short lived   association that produced interesting songs like “Badmouth Mama”, "How It Feels", "You Don t Miss Your Water" and "Cairo Motel". Here Taylor s virtuosity is not restricted through the confines of a particular style of music but his dexterity is enhanced by the nearness of Jimmy King Amason, a great player too. The strange stage presence of Jimmie Wood (also on harp) helps keeping off the pressure from him too, as well as the funky rhythm section, allowing his venture into elaborate solos that allow a more creative output in comparison to the future outfits he would play with. The encore is "Teresa" another original composition that starts with a long harmonica solo by Jimmie Wood with partial vocals by Jimmy King Amason before the song develops with an obsessive riff. Technically speaking this is one of Taylor s best played concerts and it is regrettable that no official release has covered this period neither in audio nor in video format; anyway this video is really enjoyable and hoping somehow a lower generation version comes out it can be taken as compelling evidence of a pretty underestimated ensemble that deserved more recognition (and a recording contract). This line up eventually disbanded in late 1993 and Taylor then created his version of supporting band that has more or less survived through these days on and off.
