REVIEW:

Want all the early U2 apprearances on one DVD?  Here you are.  U2 Live & Rare Volume One is a generically presented set that is a fantastic compilation.  The package itself is unassuming, attractive and informative and the material is provided on a slick looking picture disc with a nice early 80's photo of the band. (This compilation could almost be subtitled, The Mullet Years!)

I will not dissect all of the material presented.  The quality of video is consistently great throughout.  Surprisingly enough, the worst quality here are the 1981 Promo Videos of "11 O Clock Tick Tock" & "I Will Follow".  You mean to tell me that after gathering all of these other wonderful and rare TV appearances, etc.....that this label (whomever they are, since there isn't any identification anywhere)...couldn't tape some decent versions from MTV2 or elsewhere?  Unbelievable.

Too bad we couldn't get the entire Meadowlands show from 1984.  This version of Wire is superb.  More of this please.  What is nice about this compilation is the lack of too much repetition of songs.  The flow is nice and we get a variety of material from the band in excellent audio quality and very nice video quality.  The video grading here is just an average with most of it scoring a "9".  A highly recommended DVD.
