REVIEW:

This release presents the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; it has been another great edition of the annual extravaganza: this time the first artists to be inducted have been the Ronettes introduced by Keith Richards. They perform "Be My Baby" and give a moving speech. They are followed by a Tribute to the great late Ahmet Ertegun who passed away at the Stones concert at the Beacon in 2006: an interview with Jagger is shown where he mimicks Ertegun accent; then Stephen Stills comes on stage and is soon followed by Aretha Franklin, who plays "Don't Play That Song For Me": visibly overweight but still with the greatest voice the song brings to like many of the greats that she mentions, including Jerry Wexler. That is followed by "(I Never Loved A Man) The Way I Loved You" a brilliant performance that sets the stage on fire. Then comes Patti Smith's turn to be inducted and she performs great renditions of her hit songs "Because The Night" and especially "Rock n Roll Nigger" played with passion and dedicated to her mother and passed husband Fred Sonic Smith. Van Halen are inducted but only Sammy Hagar and the band's bass player, Michael Anthony, show up while the live tribute is left to Velvet Revolver, a band that features Slash on guitar. Then the two members join them on stage, the only original one being Michael Anthony for "Why Can't This Be Love?", too sad that for many reasons (including internal feuds) none of the Van Halen brothers nor David Lee Roth showed up. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five are inducted by Jay Z while R.E.M. are inducted by Eddie Vedder who joins them for "Man On The Moon". A short tribute to James Brown follows, before the grand finale with everybody on stage. Singing and playing "People Have The Power": guitar solos are from Keith Richards, Stephen Stills and Eddie Vedder. This release presents the whole show with no ads and a great view especially for those collectors outside the United States who couldn't view the original live broadcast, the only bad thing is the audio which is mono.
