REVIEW:

This recording of the Australian TV show from February 1966 (but broadcasted a year later) comes from a newly found reel present an uncut performance from many top British acts that toured Australia in the mid sixties. The show starts with the Searchers and after a short introduction from Brian Henderson shows them again playing live two more songs. Then is Tom Jones to sing 4 songs, actually 5 because "Long Tall Sally" and "I Got A Woman" are played in a medley. This tv show was said to have been showing acts in playback but it doesn't seem to be the case in fact. Despite the age of this video footage is quite good although in black and white and sound too, despite being mono. There is quite a complete lack of stage antics from the player but Tom Jones sings amidst many screaming teenagers and has its way through a small stage while dancing girls are behind the band: typical 60s scene that was shown on US shows like Hullaballoo as well. His set ends with the hit    "It's Not Unusual" which is much welcomed by the fans. After is the Herman Hermits a great contrast in style with these guys that could be called teeny boppers whose bigger success is this time "I'm Into Something Good" their first hit from August 64 ending their set with "Listen People" just released in February 66. The Stones are next, in playback this time, with Richards and Wyman singing backing vocals on "Get Off Of My Cloud" followed by "Play With Fire" where Brian Jones goes backstage, actually down from the stage. At the beginning of "19th Nervous Breakdown" there is a funny scene when a policeman approaches the stage because some fans are getting too close with menacing attitude, while the band plays on a small stage full of paper banners thrown by the teenagers. Jagger and Richards alone perform "As Tears Go By" seated close together while the full band is back for the final song "Satisfaction". This is remarkable footage, which I never saw before in this quality and a great find for collectors and fans who will enjoy these clips that seem to really come from a long gone era. Too bad the Hank Willims song "I'm Moving On" is missing. The disc ends with another song from The Searchers played over the ending credits, "Take Me For What I m Worth".
