REVIEW:

REVIEW:

This new WLR release presents 3 DVDs and 1 cd by Ron Wood presenting live (and studio) material from 2010 and 2011; first we must say that it has got out with bad time, since had they waited just one more week they could have included the 2012 Atlantic City show filmed in high definition which just appeared on some torrent sites even as blue ray. Anyway let s look at this:

Disc One starts with BBC 2 Rob Brydon show with the Faces, followed by the whole episode (why?) of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from September 2010; then there is an interesting interview from Premiere Guitar Magazine, BBC1 The One Show and the live tracks from the Hard Rock Calling concert he0ld in Hyde Park by Rod Stewart (all pro shot except for Maggie May) with a dramatic change in volume which is too low. The Ron Wood Shows footage comes next offering footage with Flea, Mary Wilson, Kenny Jones, Slash and his son Jesse plus behind the scenes, then Ron Wood gets a Sony Award for his radio show; the disc ends with footage from Ron Wood s guesting on Roger Taylor s version of Voodoo Chile and footage from Boogie for Stu concert from the Ambassador Theatre in March 2011 (audience source): this footage does not come from the same source as The Stu Tribute (Jointrip) which was the best document of this gig but nevertheless pretty good and steady. The second disc is basically the same as One Night Only from Northern Disc, so we can replicate its review here, the only difference being there are tracks separation: this release has both Ron Wood concerts from London s The Ambassadors Theatre held in other to promote his latest studio solo album I Feel Like Playing. The early concert is presented in its entirety while the late show has only 6 tracks. The early London concert is shot from first rows facing the front of the stage with very good fidelity (video) with a saturated sound. Footage is pretty good and most of the songs are complete. The late show is a less brilliant recording (video) but much better audio. Position of the taper is similar to the afternoon show, maybe a bit farther but still in the centre facing the stage. This release is the same as I Feel Like Playing from RSVP, the only difference is that here both shows are in NTSC system. The third disc is a partial copy of Disc One of   Faces Real Good Reunion Time: it presented the Werchter concert in Belgium shot by the first taper, the first film of the Werchter concert was recorded front of the stage from the first rows and is a reasonably good effort showing full action from the stage with a pretty steady camera (when not zooming) and good mono sound although a bit saturated. At the end of the disc there is a 10 minutes pro shot segment coming from a 2009 rebroadcast from Cultura 24 Vara-Nps tv of the 1973 Popgala that features three songs from the original Faces with Ronnie Lane.   This segment is in exceptional quality, much better than what was previously available and in 16:9, despite annoying logos on the screen.

The audio disc presents the reproduction of the official vinyl only 3 LPs box which sold out immediately released in March 2011 that offered the Ambassador Theatre 2010 late performance where Ron Wood played his show that included 10 tracks from his latest studio solo album; this is a great recording with no edits at all and it is for the first time on silver disc and we wholeheartedly agree with the label that used a 90 minutes disc instead of spreading it onto two discs, however we can here the needle touch the vinyl and after 12 seconds of silence the show begins. Packaging is great with the digibox that includes a 12 pages booklet that features also a Ron Wood interview.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
