REVIEW:

This new release presents the first and last gig of the short (4 days) Japan Tour by Ron Wood in 1993. The band has Bernard Fowler on vocals (when Ron is not singing), Ian McLagan on keyboards, Johnnie Lee Schell on guitar, Shaun Solomon on bass and Wayne Sheehy on drums. The first concert is the opening night in Osaka, the sound is excellent and the band plays quite well alternating solo stuff with some Faces and some Stones tracks. This recording is very good consistent throughout the show offering a great document of the concert   There is a great 9.40 minutes version of Black Limousine with many nice slide solos by Ron Wood; the concert had to be finished quickly because of some kind of curfew that was on (per Ron Wood's words) so the encores after "It's Only Rock n Roll" are rushed up.

The second concert presented here is the final night of the tour recorded at Tokyo s Budokan, the show was recorded for the release of Slide On Live later in 1993, 7 tracks were actually chosen from this concert; here we have the whole show recorded very well again even if the taper was a bit distant from the stage in comparison to the first concert. The playing is however very good with a breath taking 8 minutes version of Pretty Beat Up. On Disc Two there is also a great 11.42 minute version of Little Red Rooster which is sung by Bernard Fowler with great passion; Ron Wood guitar playing here is excellent too with many solos and great fluidity of playing that he will loose to alcohol excesses in the following decade.

This release presents a fantastic opportunity to dig Ron Wood solo work thanks to a great recording well packaged in a nice bulky case.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
