REVIEW:

The two nights at London s Ronnie Scott were the real focus of this celebration for Chuck Berry s music that Ron Wood and Ben Waters had arranged in mid November 2018 and here we can listen to their recordings coupled in a 4 disc downloads release. Tapers names are unknown, the only reference we have is Cas (for the first night), anyway they have been remastered by RDP and are valuable due to the fact that it must have been difficult to record the complete concerts including the jam on the second night for environment reasons (venue being quite small and packed   with people attending the shows hoping to see the famous guests promised).

Anyway on the 14th of November 2018 Ben Waters & Ron Wood played their first show in London s Ronnie Scott; sound wise this recording is quite good , well balanced with all the instruments that can be easily heard and not too many audience comments; here the guitars are at the same level of the other instruments in the mix . The other players were Disse (Dion Egdtved being his real name) from Denmark on bass, Dexter Hercules on drums and Imelda May on vocals (Wee Wee Hours, Around And Around, Almost Grown and Back in the U.S.A.) with Denise Gordon and Amy Mayes on backing vocals; while Natasha Barnes sings lead vocals on some songs too (No Particular Place To Go, Run Rudolph Run, Hey Santa Clause, Rock and Roll Music, Jump Jive and Wail), Antti Snellman on sax and on Sweet Rock n Roller Rod Stewart.   The setlist is very similar to the Wimborne one, in fact Disc One has the same songs and sequence, starting with Ben Waters boogie piano on Roll Over Beethoven, Nadine and Meade Lux Lewis Honly Tonk Train Blues, but on Disc Two differently from Wimborne some additional tunes are played, not only the aforementioned encore, but also Run Rudolph Run and Jump, Jive And Wail (Louis Prima) which together with Worried Life Blues (Big Maceo), Down The Road Apiece (Don Raye)and Hey Santa Clause (The Platters) are not Berry s compositions, although he recorded it the latter in 1960.

The second concert is by far the most intriguing one due to the different guests that appeared including Jeff Beck and actor Johnny Depp on guitar who came on stage on the encore songs starting from Wee Wee Hours #2 onwards. In fact after a set that is in practice similar to the one played the previous night some songs snippets are played including Jeff Beck Please Mr. Jailer and Poor Boy, Shangri La s Remember Walking In the Sand, James Brown I ll Go Crazy,  Oh Darling by the Beatles,   Elvis Presley Danny Boy and Freddie King Going Down. This is a remarkable release, let s see how many labels would copy and use it.

Packaging present a front cover with a picture from the event and the back cover sports all songs played during both nights.
