REVIEW:

This new release from RSVP presents a bunch of private films captured during last year's performances by Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings; most of them are complete songs taken from fans during concerts that have so far had little exposure even between dedicated collectors and therefore this is precious stuff. The first 6 songs come from Apeldoorn, Holland and are shot by two different cameras one closer to the stage and the other a bit more distant but both in good video quality, however the audio is annoying as the saturation limiter is on and creates too much resonance. The songs from Heerlen  are much better audio-wise however the footage is shot from a distance and color saturated. In many concerts the Rhythm Kings played "Honky Tonk Women" during 2009 sung by Bill Wyman himself, a funny occurrence. The Haarlem footage is by far the best, both audio and video. Shot from above, it captures part of a remarkable performance that featured Robin Nolan, the great gypsy jazz guitarist, guesting on 4 songs two of which are here, the second seems to be a proshot multicamera source; it is during "Hit The Road, Jack" that Nolan displays his virtuosity by inserting a gypsy version of "Jumping Jack Flash's" main riff. The Lahnsteiner Festival performance was broadcast by SWR3m tv and is complete here, with the Fritz Rau introduction. All 4 Holland dates of the October mini tour are represented here starting with good quality footage coming from Zoetemer, providing the great vantage of the taper who was close to the stage itself and guest appearance by Eddie Floyd. Another surprise comes from the Breda footage that is even better and has Geraint Watkins singing and playing his New Orleans version of   "Johnny B.Goode". Cool tracks come too from Leeuwarden and Brugge, the only stop in Belgium where the band covers also Dylan's "Maggie's Farm". The last footage comes from London s Royal Albert Hall where the Rhythm Kings participated in the Helping The Heart Of Music show together with Mick Hucknall, Andy Fairweather-Low, Mel C and Yan Akkerman in an All-Star Benefit concert which also featured The Faces on the bill with Wyman on bass.
