REVIEW:

This new release from RSVP presents a Charity concert held for Kampuchea on December 1989 in London. The film starts with a 10 minutes documentary that presents the case of Kampuchea and its story after   the country tried to re build its life following the Khmer Rouge defeat. All interviews, although in English, have English subtitles. Then we go straight to Ringwood while the Benefit concert still has to begin and experience the musicians practising with the stage still to be ready.  After some long intro speech, the last by Wyman himself, music begins. First act is from an excellent blues band; then come An American in Paris, a UK group that was sponsored by Wyman himself. They play their songs and end up with a version of "Jumping Jack Flash" which has the "Satisfaction" riff in them middle. Quality of footage is good, it seems to be pro shot as it is so very close to the stage and multicamera. Bill Wyman had make a group of friends (Willie & The Poor Boys) a few years earlier and the bulk of it is on stage with him (Terry Taylor and Andy Fairweather- Low on guitars,Chris Johnson on drums, Jimmy Henderson on vocals and harmonica, Julian Palladino on percussion) with special guest Nicky Hopkins on keyboards. Their set lasts for about 30 minutes after which some signed Valentine cards are auctioned with all artists on stage pushing for people bids. Then the concert starts again and after Labi Siffri, a black electric piano player, it is Gary Brooker to come on stage with his group that features Andy Fairweather- Low and Frank Mead (later to join the Rhythm kings); he plays many hits including Procol Harum "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" and then the grand finale sees on stage Wyman (clapping) and all others for a rowdy rendition of Little Richard's "Good Golly Miss Molly" the DVD ends with after the show comments. After some tracking problems (it comes from a VHS version) the video footage betters and at the end of the concert is excellent, no problem with the audio which has pretty high volume, glad this remarkable night was preserved on tape.
