REVIEW:

It is obvious hearing these tapes that Yes were exhausted by the end of their 35th Anniversary tour last year.  The tour began with them debuting "Mind Drive" and playing the demanding "Ritual".  By the time they hit the latter stages of the tour they have lapsed back into playing the familiar epics "Close To The Edge" and "Awaken".  It's not that those pieces are easy to play, but these two have been in the set list more often and makes you think they could play them in their sleep.  In fact "Close To The Edge" sounds very sluggish in this performance.

Blue Cafe used a majority of the London, Ontario tape for this release.  For some unexplained reason they replaced the acoustic set from the London show with the one from the following evening's show in Niagra Falls.  Why this was done is a mystery.  The "Yours Is No Disgrace" intro. listed on disc two is Alan White banging out the familiar drum opening to the well known piece.  Jon Anderson then asks the audience if they want to hear that tune or "Starship Trooper".  It's very obvious which piece they wanted to hear.

Both tape sources are very good to excellent.  There are some small cuts on the Ontario tape that are insignifcant, and there is a short conversation by the recording at the beginning of the "I Get Up I Get Down" section of "Close To The Edge".  The Niagra Falls fragment sounds noticably better because it was closer to the stage and the venue was smaller.  The packaging is typical Blue Cafe.  One sided inserts that look very amaturish and cheap.  I would recommend this title if found inexpensively.  Otherwise there are much better releases from the 35th Anniversary tour available.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
