REVIEW:

Let s start with this release title which listed on the back spine is Hound Dog, but according to front cover   could be seen as Live At Mid-South Coliseum 1978.

The Stones Memphis 78 show was another concert recorded by Bob Clearmountain for KBFH that broadcasted some songs from it on 16 May 1979. The band s stop at Memphis has always been subject of many a bootleg appearance because of the fact they played homage to Presley through their live rendition of  Hound Dog.

The Memphis concert has always been released in part on 20 Years Rare Live 69-89 (Godfather Records GFR 002), Best of USA Tours 73-80, Can t Stop Rolling (OBR 103-4), Best of USA Tour 73-80 (Seagull 031), Extended Play (Great Live Concerts RR-EEP-030), Five By Five Alive (Decda PD 50 096), Chain Shooting (Show Company 9447 22/23), Hound Dog (Copyright Rec.)2LPs, A Decade of Decadence (TMOQ RS 1100), Some Boys (Sfot A/B), A Summer Romance (Impossible Record Works), Stoned Stones (Apollo Rec. LP 786), Rare Little Rock And Roller ep (Collectors Series 001), Dr.No Presents the RS (Bebop   A 7955),From Lakeland to Oakland (Red Devil 005-6), Gimme A Neck (American Concert Series CAS 044), Hot Flashes & Kool Licks (Inward Rec.2000), The Live Album (Fanatic Rec.), World Tour Live (Zebra Rec.5678), Steel Wheels Japan Live Tour with Memphis 1978 as bonus disc (Not On Label 66662-3), Live from England 1974 (RS Conlie 74) on vinyl and on Lacerated (IMP,Hot Lips,VGP, Master Sounds etc.), Lacerated at the Cocktail Party(Dr.Gig 012), Keith Where is the Party Tonight?(Sounds Carrier Systems 847007-78) a copy of Live in Memphis 78, Super Golden Radio Show (SGRS 035), Some Girls Are Better Than Others (Home Rec.5985), Miss You (Trade Service RRC 001), KBFH (Dir) and KBFH 2 cds (KBFH), RS In Concert (Golden Standards), Just Our Imagination (Kiss the Stone 587-8), Handsome Girls (S.Pig and Dandelion), Definitive Handsome Girls (Devil), Gorgeous Girls Redux (S.Morphine). SODD itself released Can t Stop Rolling (SODD 077-8)awhile ago which featured 2 songs from Memphis and  later Memphis, Tennessee Girls   (SODD 131), then two more tracks came on a cdr called Radio Broadcasts 1978 ( D091025F ) and thanks to another Wolfgang s Vault broadcast most of the songs were released on Home Of The King (V.Masters). Memphis recordings were part also of the WLR box Tour 1978 (WLR 2129). In all of these recordings four songs have always been missing Star Star, Sweet Little Sixteen , Faraway Eyes and Lies replaced by audience versions. The only complete version of this concert, an audience recording, came out as cdr on Make some Girl in Memphis (Rockin Rott). This release in fact   presents another audience source in a quite good shape, despite some tape deterioration clearly audible on the right channel during Just My Imagination. The impression is that the faulty channel was replaced before this track by a replica of the left channel slightly delayed in order to create he stereo effect and compensate for what was missing.

The 78 US Tour was undoubtedly a return to the origin for the band that came quite unstrapped to the stage with the sole support of Stu and Ian McLagan on piano and keyboards but lots of energy that can be felt from the first moments into Let It Rock; the performance is a great one and has been well captured on disc so this release jumps on the wagon of the 78 live Stones.

This set ends with the bonus of Tumbling Dice from Detroit 78, in the original radio show Jagger s words when he was complaing about being too dark on stage were not broadcasted, here are presented in full.
