REVIEW:

This set presents the so called European version of the Stones King Biscuit Flower Hour 1973 recordings which were released earlier this year. The early seventies stuff has been the subject of many broadcasts that for the first time featured the live Stones from 73 playing in Brussells and London, from which many bootlegs originated, since no live album was released from that tour. After many years of copies of copies a few weeks ago three original reel to reel analogue tapes recorded by the known Joe Maloney taper (mentioned in the second line of the title of this release) have been uploaded on a famous torrent site and they soon come out in the underground section. The first 3 shows were aired from September 1974 through June 1975 and feature in two of them also short interviews with Watts and Jagger, which embellish these sets. The first two recordings are in mono and on the first one during the final KBFH outro it is possible to hear in the background the concert s outro music and the announcer s farewell message. The third record show is in stereo and has been the base for many bootlegs over the years. These recordings have been rush released in Japan as well as in Europe on a no label set titled KBFH Broadcast Archive Master. From the musical standpoint these tracks have been released many a times on the dozens of Nasty Music/Songs releases over the years and serve the purpose to enlighten the more casual listener on what the Stones were in 1973. To a prolonged listening it is clear that this album set has gathered its best shape ever, the sound has an amazing punch and this is totally due to Bill Wyman s rocking bass that stands upfront in this recording and not flattened at the back like in so many other releases of the famous KBFH tracks which were mixed by Mick Jagger and Phil Ramone at A&R Recording, New York City, earlier in September 1974. The bass lines are not too prominent but are still there, punctuating the melodic tunes and enhancing the rocking ones. The last show is Keith Richards 1993 broadcasted concert from Boston with the Expensive Winos.

About packaging the front cover provides an early shot of Jumping Jagger, while on the accompanying booklet are available many photos and a full description in details of the set content.
