REVIEW:

Here is another new recording from the 1976 European Tour coming from Tarantura, Stafford second night which was never pressed on a silver disc before, but it did come out before on tape (Stafford UK 76, Stafford 18 May 1976); in fact this is the same source for all these recordings. Unfortunately no full recording of the previous night concert exists and therefore we are lucky to have the following night recording. The sound of the recording is good but the first songs are in mono although a bright one with plenty of audience interaction throughout tracks. At the beginning the sound is quite tight, we can assume it was unbalanced and the label opted for a mono rendition, however from Hot Stuff onwards the sound is stereo although lacking balance between the channels at times.   Unfortunately It s Only Rock n Roll and Brown Sugar are missing in here, although having been played that night.

Musically speaking the band plays pretty well, a typical 1976 set with all the ups and downs of that era. Packaging is great with the title that is quite puzzling, but it refers to the fact that a radical political organization active in the Midlands believed that the UK were illegally occupying what was the ancient region of Mercia; actually in 2003 the independence was declared in Birmingham, however in 2009 only 2000 people had been registered as Mercian citizens. To sum it up this is a nice release of a show that was never printed before on silver in quite good sound, we ll see if some other label will use these recordings.
