REVIEW:

This new release from Casino Records (the vinyl department of Eat a Peach label) presents tracks from Charlotte 72 live concert that has already been available on tape as Charlotte 72, then   as Bring It Back Alive on multicoloured vinyl (K&S 003) then on cd both from IMP 1112 and VGP 054), Back From 1972 (Power Stick Prod.) re-released as Going Back To The Roots (POW 901502), Drippin Honey (Concert Series 7672 on vinyl and VGP 294 on cd together with Knoxville 72), American Tour in L.A. (11 songs), with Rocks Off released on Very Ancient, Thank You Kindly (Scorpio 30); Rocks Off in Charlotte (Phoenix D 36067076) which had 14 songs and then as Going Back To 1972 (SODD 054) together with the Long Beach concert on bonus cdr. Live in Detroit (OB81KYOTO) is another vinyl with puzzling title. Exile in Charlotte (Exile 2008XEA001) is another silver pressed cd from Japan like Going Back To The Roots (DAC 102) that featured Norfolk too. 4 tracks are featured on Rehearsal Sessions 1972 Tour (Contraband WCR 3690), while Bye Bye Johnny and Rip This Joint are featured on Time Trip no.3 (Scorpio 15/172/1).

The disc opens up with Gimme Shelter since there was   a cut in the original tape on Bitch and during the first songs the tape lacked fidelity. The performance is shining, just like the recording, with the band at its top during the extended versions of Love In Vain with the excellent interplay between Taylor s melodic licks and Nicky Hopkins rounded piano notes that make this version probably the best live one; obviously Sweet Virginia has a particular flavour and relevance played here in Charlotte, Virginia.

Charlotte is well known among collectors as one of the best performances of the whole 72 Tour (remarkable is also such a clear channel separation for this audience recording) and this release proves it one more time.
