REVIEW:

All Stones fans know well the importance of the Stones live recordings and of their first live album released in the autumn of 1970 (Get Yer Ya Ya s Out) stemming from the US 1969 Tour, really the first rock tour. Stones know very well the importance of the band s first live bootleg Liver Than You ll Ever Be, recorded at Oakland in 1969 which some say that prompted the band s official release due to its great underground success which, according to the label, reached 250,000 copies sold and prompted Decca to release the official document. Apart from being an audience recording and thus not as brilliant as an official album, this recording provided an unrivalled spontaneity that attracted fans. Obviously Get Yer Ya Ya s Out was well accepted by fans, but when the acetate version found its way to collectors the difference from the real live recordings and what has been overdubbed (mostly Jagger s vocals) was plain; moreover the recording supplied only part of the Stones set and fans became dreaming of having a real full concert released with the same quality of Ya Ya s. After the 2009 release of Get Yer Ya Ya s Out 40th Anniversary that was a disappointment for all fans hopping to get the 3 Madison Square Gardens shows unaltered or maybe exceptional versions from the 69 tour of songs (like Sympathy For The Devil from Baltimore) way above the released ones. The inclusion of 5 new live tracks (Prodigal Son, Under My Thumb, You Gotta Move, I m Free and Satisfaction) however made possible to get close to a complete version of the concert. Nevertheless there still existed differences in length between officially released songs and the acetate versions, let alone between songs comments missing. The main difficulty to integrate them into Ya Ya s and add missing parts from the acetate was to level the sound difference (the acetate was in mono and mostly with audible cracks from the vinyl platter).

In late 2015 the first underground attempt was tried by DAC that presented a no number release which just placed the 5 newly released songs in the right order among Ya Ya s songs creating a concert as complete as possible, using official songs (that is the reason for it being unnumbered and with no mention of DAC on its cover, maybe aware of the problems Empress Valley encountered when they released the Naked DVD ), reviewed here at the times, that was anyway over 2 minutes shorter than this release. There were still anyway missing bits as well and here comes this release that supplements the official tracks with the acetate containing the rough mix; this time the cut point of some songs was found, thanks to the new possibilities given by the 21st century technology, so the first half of the well-known version of Sympathy for the Devil was joined with the second half thus presenting a complete recording that is about 50 seconds longer. Interesting is also to listen to the part just before the beginning of Midnight Rambler, where Jagger tells the name of the song which is longer for more than 30 seconds, with the acetate version stepping in to help. There is also a  subtle cut of 0:15 seconds between Watts drum roll and Jagger s shout in the official version and since it was recorded without being cut on the acetate, it as been joined therefore that masterpiece live album is now offered as complete as possible compared to the real actual setlist, and sporting the longest recording ever that had been realized thanks to the supplements coming from the acetate. Now DAC unnumbered cd was pressed in 500 copies and sold in its shop or given away to wholesalers distributors in few samples, this release however was sold out on its first appearance on a no label and repressed due to great demand from collectors all over the world. This speaks volumes on the Stones blindness since they have not considered a full 69 concert being officially released on their From the Vaults series. We all remember how Ya Ya   was well received and became some kind of a cult album due to the great mix by Glyn Johns and the interesting intro patch by Sam Cutler. The sound of this release is excellent and the added bits and songs have been equalized in order to match the rest of the tracks making a real pleasure listening to it, also because the volume has been levelled. Packaging is nice too presenting photos that look like the original artwork that are well suited to the content, the second pressing differs from the first one having tracks titles in red on front cover.
