REVIEW:

From the Stones 1967 European tour the only soundboard recording comes from Paris, the classic concert that was recorded at the Olympia, except for some tracks released on the Charlie Is My Darling de Luxe version. Paris performances had high sound quality since originally recorded and then broadcasted in France at first as AM broadcast on May 31, 1982 later released on vinyl on Fuckin and Suckin (RS - TAP - 010). This LP came out in 1983 and is still a very popular item that is traded at a high prices among collectors despite not sporting a complete version of the concert. After that in the CD era and in the mid 90s the Olympia performances were rebroadcasted on FM radio with better sound quality and out of these was released Still I m Gonna MissYou (VGP 073).
In 2004 Musicorama Mixdown a download bootleg came out and then Paris Match (DAC 007) came out offering a much better source, but in this release two songs were cut and although it may sound like the same editing present on Paris Match when listening, in fact, it turns out that it was compiled   from of the original broadcast adjusting each song. Contrary to previous versions the high frequencies that were too strong had not been boosted and the tape speed which was somewhat slower had been corrected. Under My Thumb whose sound quality has been slightly worse than other tracks in the cassette recording has also been taken from digital source like Musicorama Mixdown coming from the rebroadcast, so almost the entire live recording has the same quality. Moreover, the spoken words after the end of Ruby Tuesday seems to appear here for the first time.
In the 1967 tour, it is confirmed that the opening song was The Last Time, as audience tapes of other performances confirmed, but in the past the Olympia performance broadcasted on the radio Europe 1 did not present all the songs. In fact the April 11 recording began with Paint It Black as The Last Time had been removed, on that day it was performed twice day and night, this performance is said to be the night performance according to people that attended the show as in daytime the band played She Smiled Sweetly instead of Under My Thumb.
In addition to that, this release also presents songs from the 67 Sessions that have recently been officially released on iTunes, plus 15 tracks have been added from the 1966 UK tour, some more from the 1966 Olympia concert and one 1966 UK TV appearance.
The 1966 UK tour is the so-called Got Live tour, but here we have a special edition of these live tracks that includes a corrected beginning of Under My Thumb and the extra track The Last Time. It also has two lip synched live songs including Paint It Black that was played as the opening number on this tour, but in the record it was cut off. Jagger s vocals have all been re-recorded in the studio. In the CD era we had the sound output reworked, Under My Thumb is here present but comes from another source, Get Off Of My Cloud was cut because of hands clapping from Jagger, on Lady Jane Richards acoustic guitar has no overdubs, etc. Also, although this is a remaster which is often in mono, in fact it can be called a slightly stereo recording with band s instruments on the right, vocals on the left, screams newly added. Satisfaction here is a complete version that does not fade out compared to the one that appeared for the first time on the Blu-ray edition of Charlie Is My Darling soundtrack but the ending part was added from another performance. Here the sound volume has been increased more than on the ones that have already come out and the outcome is a powerful sound.
The 1966 4 tracks from the Olympia still come from the digital master and represent a great upgrade with regards to the ones recorded on Still I m Gonna Miss You and they also have been accurately speed corrected. The last two tracks come from the Eammon Andrews Show which was broadcasted on February 6, 1966, here the sound quality is worse than on the other tracks, but the source is valuable and comes out for the first time. Although this was recorded from the TV speakers, this is something hard to figure out, however 19th  Nervous Breakdown at that time was not being played live and they used the record backing track, Jagger vocals are live though.

So, summing up the 1965 Olympia show is presented in its entirety in the best possible quality thanks to a French rebroadcast of the Musicorama radio broadcast. Then follows the 1967 show again fully presented except for Lady Jane, Going Home and last part of Satisfaction” that come from a worse source (the original AM broadcast), while the 66 one has only Satisfaction that is not complete either and supplemented by the original AM broadcasted version. Obviously the recordings are in mono but thankfully to new technology they are very good ones because of the rebroadcasts with nice frequencies to appreciate the dynamic side of the early-mid sixties Stones shows, something that audiences could hardly experience due to the mayhem or riots they were often involved in. This time there is not any 1 second gap between songs and that is a vast improvement. These recordings came out in different formats before, on vinyl for Paris 66: Lord Have Mercy (CBM 3948), Play With Fire (HHCER 108), That s How Strong My Love Is (OBR 93004) A L’Olympia 66 (Magic Dwarf 03)
