| REVIEW: |
Here we
have the 1st night in Los Angeles 1975 recording, last year we
finally got the master from the JEMS team, an outstanding tape that marked the
Stones first performance in California in 1975; this version is refined with
regards to the previous ones. If Joe Maloney was the king of the East coast
tapers, Mike Millard was the West Coast one. First of all, the Introduction is
8 seconds longer, then there is no more the digital noise at the start of All
Down The Line and after the end of You Can’t Always Get What You Want that have
been patched up, also the latter song was cut in 2 segments by the taper (while
changing tape), this time to fill in the missing seconds the Smoking Stones
version was used from the original album which, although in mono, is of high
quality. There was also another cut at the end of Angie that had been
previously fixed using other (fake) audience comments and screams on the Live
at LA Forum (Screamer) and Love You Live Los Angeles (DAC) versions, but this
time this version has been used. Another gap was filled between the end of
Jumping Jack Flash and Sympathy For The Devil, thus creating the most complete
and longer version so far. Another improvement has been the suppression of the
low frequency noise pretty upfront on all other versions, with bass frequencies
now more clear and less muddied, making this the definitive version of this
show, thanks to this Graf Zeppelin remaster.
Packaging is excellent and, contrary to the 2024 edition, even discs labels
are in colour.
This show
was released at first on tape on First of Five From the Forum, on L.A. Fog and
on First Night at the Forum Part.1. On vinyl as L.A. Fog on double LP (TMQ
8208-8), American Tour 75 vol.1 & 2 (Holy Grail 1-2 RS 75), 5 tracks were on
The Best of the RS Live in Concert (BRS 775), 16 on Smoking Stones 2LP (RS 75
A-2 1-2) while on cd it came out on a 2 cdr set called First of Five From the
Forum, then on The Forum, Inglewood 2 cdr the first to have the Millard
recording. On silver as L.A. Fog (VGP 277), on a 2 cd set called L.A. Opening
Night (Totonka PRO 17-18) and Lost Forum Tapes (Blue Sun Records), but also as
part of the 8 cd set Whores, Cocaine and a Bottle of Jack Daniels (EVSD 43-50) that
had also the DVD from July 11th show. It then appeared on Billy
Preston & His Rolling Stones (No Label) which was a re-release of the LP
American Tour 75 Volume 2; Live at L.A. Forum (Screamer 04008-9) and on Smokin
Stones (No Label) 2cdr copied from the 2LP but only 14 tracks. It was also part
of the 10 cdr set The L.A. Tapes (Pignose 119) and lastly as Love You Live Los
Angeles (DAC 049) that too had the famous Mike Millard recording. Moreover, it
was also released as Welcome To The Chinese Restaurant (SODD 023-24), but Sympathy
For The Devil can be found on Our Demonic Invocation (D-666) LP and the whole
concert as part of the 14 cds and 1 DVD box Tur Of Americas 75 (WLR 2124).
In 2018 it was the subject of Cpt Acid
remaster as First Forum (APD 034) 2cdr then 12 tracks can be found on L.A.
Forum 1975 1st Night (no label) that came out in 2022. In 2024 came
out Night One At The Forum 1975 (JEMS Archives 231) that had again the Mike
Millard master tape mastered by the JEMS team, as specified above.
