REVIEW:

Talk about a refreshing surprise!  Refined Masters have capitalized on an early 80's re-broadcast of the WBCN Radio FM Broadcast of AC/DC's premier Boston-area performance at the Paradise Rock Club on August 21, 1978.  This is without a doubt an actual WBCN direct 'skim' or on-air reel-to-reel tape, recorded by and confirmed here on the broadcast by our re-broadcast DJ/host, Shred.

The recording is nothing short of exhilarating and powerful in full high voltage stereo.  The performance is vintage and prime Bon Scott-era supreme, out promoting the stellar "Powerage" LP with the band showcasing a couple of tunes from that LP here, "Gone Shootin'" and "Sin City".  The only downside to this nugget is that it's so short!  The broadcast and disc runs just over an hour but we get their best and the payoff at the end is the rare encore of "Dog Eat Dog", which is nothing short of brilliant.

A humorous moment in the proceedings, during the original broadcast, is when Ron, the on-site talent for WBCN Radio, is doing a cut-in commentary during the break between the end of the set and the encore and calls lead singer Bon Scott "Bon Tyler"! Obviously the excitement of the moment affected Ron's bearings causing the freudian slip reference to Boston bad boy and fellow rocker, Steven Tyler.  The bottom line is that this is an absolute must have for AC/DC fans, casual or completist.  No matter.  Best thing I've heard in awhile and will get alot of play through the Fall!

This is a excellent release of Bon era AC/DC and as mentioned above the sound quality is fantastic.I also enjoyed reading the history of the Young brothers that is printed on the inside of the digipack.

I agree , this is an excellent title. I like Brian , but I have always favored the Bon Scott years and this is one hot performance by the band. A great version of Gone Shootin' really rocks. My only complaint is that Angus is way low in the mix on Sin City for his leads. That being said , this is a dynamite release - thanks.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
