REVIEW:

Played in the same venue where they started their career in 1960, The Last Waltz has been reckoned as the best film on music ever done, thanks to Martin Scorsese's skills. This release presents the unedited film that will become one of Martin Scorsese's best efforts in the music field and is presented hereby by Bad Wizard offering in a dual layer disc. all 4 hours of the uncut performance, unfortunately in back and white and mono, but the historical value of this stuff is so great that the whole lot can be appreciated in full, in spite of that. The film was released officially in 2002 on DVD for a total length of just 2 hours, while on the audio format a 4CD box had been released in 2006 featuring the expanded edition. This single camera footage shows the concert from front of stage, and is unfortunately more in black, than white, as the picture is quite dark for the first hour. After 2 hours and 40 minutes there is a short intermission occupied by some poets reading their works on the mike (including Lawrence Ferlinghetti). Many guests are on stage helping out The Band on its last gig (Muddy Waters, Mike Bloomfield, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Ronnie Hawkins, Van Morrison, Dr.John, Allen Touissant, Bob Dylan, Ron Wood, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr) that meet in the final jam but the centre stage is still for the 5 musicians that salute their audiences throughout these 4 hours and even if the quality of this release is far from superior it is historically important and a deluxe addition to every fan's library.
