REVIEW:

The Piccadilly Circus label has released three audience tapes simultaneously from Paul McCartney's current tour, Philadelphia, Toronto A.C.C., and Madison Square Garden.  The latter comes from the October 5th show which was the final of four shows in New York.  Piccadilly Circus use a very good sounding stereo audience tape that is a bit of a disappointment.  It's perfectly clear and enjoyable, but it records the audience cheers much better than the actual music, which sounds very thin, tinny and leans to the right hand channel.

Otherwise this is an excellent performance and the the band feed off of the incredible buzz from the audience.  (Guitarist Rusty Anderson even mentions that before "Fine Line".)  The set list for this tour is massive covering all of Paul's eras, including more than thirty five songs and concerts routinely lasting close to three hours on stage.  His intent is covered in the first three numbers "Magical Mystery Tour", "Flaming Pie" (which I think sounds very similar to "Junior's Farm"), and "Jet".  "I'm going to enjoy myself, I got that feeling again.  This is a song we performed at the Super Bowl earlier this year" before "Drive My Car".  Drummer Abe Laboriel gives a very animated intro to "Let Me Roll It", always one of Wings' best live numbers, and includes a lengthy "Foxey Lady" coda.

Paul tries to tell his "I Will" story but is interrupted by someone in the front row who shouts "Pasadena".  "Shh, you've been here before?  This is for people who haven't been...You know I was talking to Jerry Seinfeld who once told me he was in a club telling his jokes and one guy in the crowd said, 'Heard it! Not funny', after each joke.  So sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not so good.  Before I was interrupted, I was in a Mexican restaurant in Pasadena" before finishing the story.

The complete show contains all six encores and is spread across three discs.  Piccadilly Circus utilize the cover of the concert program for all three releases and color codes each show.  (New York has the gray trim.)   The bonus tracks are soundboard fragments from the first show of the tour in Miami.  This is the only soundboard to surface thus far and is only about ninty seconds of the first two songs from the show.  Nothing important but it is a nice touch.  This label is another imprint of the Misterclaudel/Non Plus Ultra/Wendy people and they use thick color glossy inserts with all the relevant information.  This is a nice document from the tour and well worth having.
